Many thanks to Tobin, for sponsoring a day of sanctuary in honor of her friends, Skye and Angela. Tobin shared this message about today:
“On this World Animal Day, October 4, I am sponsoring this day of sanctuary in honor of my friend, Skye, and in memory of Skye’s beloved soulmate, Angela. During their many years together as a devoted couple, Angela and Skye made their home a sanctuary for cats and dogs. Like my old friend Jody, these two women are and were excellent den mothers. As I think of them both, I think that their care for animals demonstrates lives well lived, of love that wills the good for others.”

What a beautiful tribute
Thank you, Tobin. I’m so sorry that Skye lost her Angela, her soulmate.. I can relate.I’m glad she has you as a friend. You’re so important and needed. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing and sponsoring!
On Monday of this week (Sept. 29), I was at the beach at Lake Superior. During my pilgrimage there, I bought a pumpkin at a roadside stand in northern Wisconsin. While at the seashore, I carved a Jack’o’Lantern and, after the last ray of sunlight faded over the sea’s horizon, I light a votive candle and placed it inside the pumpkin. On the back of the gourd, I listed three names “In Memoriam”: My friend Becky’s mother (1929-1975), my friend Skye’s beloved Angela, and our beloved Jody.
After I finished carving the Jack’o’Lantern, I took some photographs of the finished project alongside my framed photograph of Jody amongst the lilacs. Some passers-by walking along the beach took notice of my activity, and, inquired of the portrait. I told the couple about Jody and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest. “She’s beautiful,” one of the women said.
“She was beautiful,” I replied, “and so was her heart.”
Tobin, I love your beautiful gesture to those you love. what a sweet way to celebrate; sharing the memory of beautiful people by the water at sunset.
Such a loving tribute, Tobin.
Thank you, Nancy. Come the First of November, I intend to sponsor a day of sanctuary in honor of someone who, as a secretary for a paleontologist, ventured into the Gombe Forest aside the shores of Lake Tanganyika and made became friends with David Greybeard, Flo, Fifi, and some of our other cousins.
That news makes me happy… looking forward to Nov 1.
Missing her already. Thanks, Tobin
A lovely tribute, Tobin. Oh my, that picture of Jody and Foxie on tippy-toes, spying on something grande and wonderful, is one of my all-time favorite photos. Just look at those two. Takes my breath away.
I agree, Kathleen. My favorite photographs (which tends to be any and all photos of the residents of the CSNW), are those where the chimpanzees and the cattle are together. I am grateful for Katelyn’s selection of photographs for this blogpost, with two or more of the residents featured. What do you think? Does the pic’ of Beans and Raynie seem to convey the message of “Yes, we need more bananas/We need more bananas today-ay-ay…”?
Wow, such a lovely tribute. Thank you, Tobin for hononoring your much loved primate friends, both present and along their way. And bovines too. The world can indeed use more den mothers. Your beach story is very touching, the carving and the float.
Last night at the HOOT event there were lovely tributes to many at CSNW, including a remembrance pant hoot for Jane Goodall.
Katelyn, Thanks for the photos. and yes, we can all use more bananas today.
Happy Fall to all.
I’m glad you made it to the Hoot, it must have been quite a trek. It was impossible for me to get there even though I only live about 20 minutes away. I watched from home though and am happy it was such a success.
You have a beautiful heart, Tobin. I always look forward to seeing you on these pages.
Thank you for your continuous support, Tobin.
