The One with George and the Firehose

June 17, 2025 by Sabrina 20 Comments

Yesterday, we watched George step out into more of the sanctuary for the first time since his quarantine ended. He was a bit hesitant at first—totally understandable—but once he got his bearings, he settled in and began exploring his new area. He had such a great time in the greenhouse that we let him go back in today. Since it turns out, George isn’t a fan of getting his feet dirty on the bark, he figured out the perfect hack: using all the hanging firehose in the greenhouse to get around!

When I see him launch himself across the greenhouse on the firehose, I’m reminded of how, when you do a forage in the greenhouse, Missy explodes from the door of the Portrait Studio and up onto the platform via firehose!

Good to hear him laughing. Hope he’s not feeling lonely.

And here I was thinking George was so sweet and innocent. As J.B. Implied, boys will be boys!

Wow look at him go! As I was watching him swing around with wild abandon, all I could hear the George of the Jungle theme song.

its so nice to watch him chimp out, and enjoy these spaces.

It is truly so heartwarming to see him just blossoming so much already during his short time within your sanctuary!!!! you can see the light in his eyes coming back from the dark and dim appearance they had when he was still alone in Bandon and im sure i can speak for ALL OF US when i say George’s friends in Coos County THANK YOU!!!!

George’s first launch with the firehose was so relatable, as if he was counting down to himself as he was swaying side to side—“One. Two. Three. Take off!”

George appears to be powerful, coordinated, and so fast! What a thrill to be having so much fun!! I am do happy for him.

Oh, my word, just look at this amazing guy! Instead of Tarzan king of the jungle it should be George king of all he surveys. He had all the cool moves on that fire hose. Echoing so many of us I can’t wait to see George with his new chimp pals, but I know it takes time and is no simple process with the integration of a new chimpanzee. Does George have a favourite caregiver or maybe he simply loves you all. Thanks again for the update.

It reminds me of a video I saw of a Huge Orangutan in sanctuary, I think his name is Harry, swinging round and round on a tire hanging of a rope, long hair flying in the wind; Fantastic!
And I think that Mave would be delighted to give George one of het signature hugs….( they last for ever!!) when the time comes.

Well who DOES like walking barefoot on bark???
Newcomers: the floor of the greenhouses were originally beautiful lush green grass. That didn’t last long LOL. They wouldn’t walk on that either

I’m just over the moon happy for our George!
