George Explores the Greenhouse

June 16, 2025 by J.B.

Now that George has completed his quarantine, he is finally able to explore more of the sanctuary. This poses a bit of a logistical challenge—we don’t want him to be intimidated by the other chimps while he explores and we certainly don’t want to give them the opportunity to fight against the mesh or windows at this point, so for this to work the other chimps have to move to nonadjacent enclosures. And that means that both Honey B and Gordo have to be in a cooperative mood. But sometimes the stars do align…

So proud of George for being brave!
And to Beezus and Gordito for shifting. Does this mean Willy B is back with Cy, to keep that bit of the hierarchy strong?

Willy B is still with Mave and Honey B. Gordo and Honey B are the holdouts for their respective groups…

Wow! Rapid progress being made, go George! The greenhouse looked so big and George, so small. Could this be the first time he has been in such a large space? You can tell he’s been around people, he has a total understanding of your suggestions each time you talk with him. Loved his relaxed droopy bottom lip. Curious, adventurous, brave George.

The jump from above was wild. Do you think, assuming George hasn’t been in a space this large before (especially floor to ceiling), he doesn’t quite comprehend the distance between him and the ground? Or, do you think with his past experiences in “entertainment” he was trained to do jumps like this? I guess we may never know but I’m curious how much information you have from his past. One thing is for sure, George is an amazingly brave chap. I am so happy for him. Especially now that we know Cy is keeping a watchful eye on him. Cy is a good friend to have.

It’s probably because he is a 21-year-old male ape, and 21-year-old male apes are genetically programmed to do stupid things for the fun of it 🙂

        Loved your answer. Sounds familiar!

OMG, he is just the cutest little chimp there ever was.
He seems so smart, like really listening to you, and taking in your suggestions. I’m so happy for him.:revolving_hearts:

George is so brave!!! You can tell he felt a little nervous, but he still explored around! It’s just so great to see him have so much space to climb and be a chimp!

I’ve never been happier in my life. Seeing George’s happiness can’t be put into words. I am so thankful he’s in such an amazing place; cared for by angels on earth. God bless each of you and especially my boy George.

That was awesome to see. So happy he seemed so relaxed. Lower lip and all. Exciting all around! For George and for us.

    So exciting!!
Any insight into how George’s youth will impact any group that he might be integrated into/

Chimps tend to benefit when they live in groups with a diverse age range (he will bring youthful energy and playfulness to the older folks and hopefully can learn from his elders) but he is also at an age when males tend to want to test how far they can move up the hierarchy so he pay test everyone’s patience. But these are generalities…it will really depend on how his personality is revelaed as he becomes more confortable.
