Floof

May 12, 2025 by J.B.

Mave is a giant floof. There was a time when she only floofed indoors. Now she is perfectly happy to floof outdoors as well.

Spring grass is one of the chimps’ favorite snacks. Despite having 4.5 acres of grass to choose from, we find the chimps going back to their own favorite patches time after time. Missy prefers a patch on the north fence line, while Jamie and Burrito can often be seen in the southeast corner at the very top of the hill. When the chimps are late to breakfast, we know just where to look for them.

The cows are never late to breakfast, now that they are out on the Bray pasture.

After a walk around the hill this afternoon, Annie laid down for a nap in the cozy greenhouse.

Some of us were down in Florida last week for the 2025 North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance Workshop, which included a tour of Save the Chimps. We were fortunate to see, from a distance, many of the kids of the Cle Elum Seven, including Annie’s son Virgil. Annie may not know it but her son has a wonderful life now.

What a beautiful, pastoral and peaceful scene, JB of the chimps-and bovines -enjoying their days in that wonderful landscape. “All safely gathered in” as it were. I especially loved the photo of sweet Annie napping in the cozy greenhouse and, yes, so good to know that her son Virgil is living his good life at Save the Chimps. If only Annie could know that too.
    Thanks for sharing.

I really enjoy finding out about relationships between some of our chimps to those who live elsewhere. Virgil has a nice “autobiograply” on the Save the Chimps website where he mentions that his mother is Annie but doesn’t add that she is living and prospering at CSNW. I sent a message to Save the Chimps to suggest that Virgil add that information on his autobiography as it would be of interest to Virgil’s admirers.

Oh, finally Mave heads outside! Only 2 holdouts remain….the spring grass and the gorse look beautiful.
    Hope you guys enjoyed Florida!

Only one! Dora is the only one who doesn’t go outside (unless she’s gawking at a fight). Honey B goes outside daily, though she usually doesn’t go to the upper half of the Bray.

So nice to see Mave enjoying the great outdoors. Still no interest on the part of Dora and Honey B, huh? I live a couple of hours away from STC and had the good forture of visiting a few years ago. It really is an incredible place. As soon as I’m able to travel again, CSNW is my next stop!

Honey B is a regular on the Bray, but she prefers to stick to the lower half.

Mave is the Queen of Floof! What a beautiful photo oh her, especially because she is outside. She’s come a long way!

Interesting to learn that Missy and friends have their favorite areas to snack in. Even Negra has been known to venture far for her favorite springtime goodies. Speaking of favorite springtime places, is there anything more lovely than seeing bovine ladies out in their pasture?

Annie. Precious Annie. If you haven’t already, please be sure to tell her what a fabulous life her handsome boy, Virgil, is living at Save The Chimps. Maybe show her a video of him in his magnificent sanctuary home. Somehow I believe that deep down inside she will understand and feel relieved with knowing this. You can’t give birth to a child and have the child stolen from your care and simply forget. Deep down inside there is a dark memory that needs healing.

Yes, please encourage Annie’s caregivers to show her a video of her child. There must be a way to heal her broken heart not knowing anything.
