January Sunshine

January 18, 2025 by Jenna

I recently read that a warm, sunny January in the Pacific Northwest, means a long, grueling winter is on the horizon. In other words, the snow is coming. While my source wasn’t exactly scientific, I am still hoping that this isn’t true!

This morning, it was 19 degrees (F) when we arrived to open the Chimp House – the coldest morning we have had this season! However, the sun came out to play today and man, it felt so nice! Even the chimps went out to explore their outdoor spaces to soak up the sunshine.

We will take all the sunshine we can get! We hope spring will be here soon! Homestretch.

Stay warm out there!

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, Jenna!.
Man, we’ve had no snow, but a few days lower than that! First real snow here on the island supposedly tomorrow night (3in), and single digits for a couple of days.
But I don’t have those lovely heated floors….
Good to see Mora back in action, and Willy B sharing his food puzzle with “his girl”… it almost looked as though he kept looking over to check and see what she had or if she had finished…as though he were racing her.

Bring on the sun! From the looks of your 360, it’s a gorgeous winter day. Lucky you.

What fun seeing Besties enjoying the day!! Missy and Annie out and about and Mora being lovable Mora. We haven’t seen these two (separate or together) in a while so thanks for catching their silly play session. And I throughly enjoyed Dora with her red enrichment ball and the busy fingers of Besties Rayne and Willy B. Can’t leave out sweet Gordo crunching his sweet potatoes.

There’s always something good going on at the sanctuary!

Dora striking a pose. In the meantime, Missy and Annie releasing their cabin fever in the great outdoors. Life is good at Cle Elum, thanks for sharing.

I’d have to put on my snow boots to climb the hill. i guess their chimp toes aren’t as sensitive as mine. I’d be inside licking peanut butter off my fingers.

I’d probably go the pb route, too (inside this weekend with foccacia pizza from a place that’s closing 🙁 ).
But they also shovel paths for them and put doqn hay, so that helps a bit.

I just love seeing Annie and Missy outside exploiring, even in the snow!
Of course, Dora and Mave are super cute and I don’t think I’ve seen a Mora play session that lively before!

Well, you have sunshine and snow to brighten the day! It’s our Summer season over here in Australia and it promises to be a real scorcher, so maybe you could have some of our sunshine witjout our himidity.
One thing Dora looked very relaxed and Zen like striking that pose. There may have been a mixture of weather at Cle Elum but the chimps were sure up for fun and frolic. Thanks for taking the time to share your day with us. Oh, just wondered if you get humidity during your Summertime or is it a dry heat?

      Susan,

In our part of Washington State, the heat is VERY dry in the summer! I hope you can find some cool in your summer season, Susan.

LOL the peanut butter boards were like synchronized swimming! That was too funny. Thank you for the laugh.
