Merry Christmas, Everyone!
Another Christmas Day is in the books.
The chimps are currently in their nests, getting ready for a deep sleep after a big day of fun! Both groups had many presents to open, full of new toys (thanks to you!), gingerbread cardboard houses, and a Christmas day feast consisting of vegan celebration roast, mashed sweet potatoes, Hawaiian rolls, green beans, corn, sparking cider, and pomegranates. The chimps were over the moon excited for the celebration.
I think they immediately knew something was up as I wore a Christmas cowboy hat all day and Caregiver Katelyn wore a pink Troll doll wig. I suspect they saw our weirdness and figured there was a special celebration incoming! They were right!
Merry Christmas to you! Happy Holidays! I hope you have had a safe, warm, happy day.
Thank you for helping us provide special days like these for the chimps! We couldn’t do it without you.

And, once again and as always, my gratitude to all of the humans at the Sanctuary who care for our beloved friends who reside there…even if, as Ms. Beans demonstrated, she took what she wanted from her plate and let the rest drop to the floor.
I love them all.

I’m glad someone else noted that plate dump. i just went awww, really, Honey.

Once again the caregivers and volunteers at CSNW have outdone themselves! Looks like everyone had a ton of fun with the presents, decorations, and, of course, food!!! Foxie clutching her new dolly and Terry with his brush were just the cutest. Willy B really loves pomegranates! Neggie seems to have made herself scarce, but I assume she picked up lots of Hawaiian rolls? Her pre-forage play session with Burrito was adorable!
Merry Christmas to all at CSNW!

What a treat being able to watch the beautiful Chimps enjoying their Christmas Day celebration! Thanks for sharing this heartwarming video and for all that you do for them. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays to all.

First, thanks to all of you for working today so that they could have a party! I often wonder if they start feeling the party vibes coming on the second that Christmas tree gets rolled into the hallway! I loved seeing Foxie and Burrito being so excited that they played chase before they even opened any toys and seeing everybody get their favorites from the plates. Annie with her sweet potatoes, it seems that Dora is happily becoming a fan of the field roast, and Terry sneaking Cy’s second roll from the plate while just throwing a glance at him to see if he was going to be upset…
I would love to pull up a seat while they have lunch!
Thank you for a long video. It’s hard seeing some of them grow old, Jamie coming down the stairs carefully instead of sliding sideways down the railing like she did just 6 years ago… and thank you for trying to capture everybody’s favorites, if only for a few seconds. I trust that Lucky, Missy, Gordito, and Negra also got their favorites ( It seems we all want evidence that Neggie gets some of her rolls!)
Since they have TVs now, I would absolutely love to see Burrito and his new scooter watching Hercules on his scooter at …is it Save The Chimps or Project Chimps? (it’s a short video). I think he might like it and that video always brings me joy. it’s on my “happy” list which is a list of videos that I watch every now and then when I need something to pick up my mood.)

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, more than one to be exact, and they and work and volunteer at CSNW! You are all the best of the best. Thank you for ensuring the chimps have a scrumptious and festive celebration every December 25. Thanks for sharing it all with us! …..My only disappointment….the blog appears to missing photos of you, Jenna, sporting your Christmas cowboy hat and Katelyn in her Troll wig!! No wonder Neggie and Burrito looked so dang excited. Because nothing screams “big holiday celebration” like a Christmas cowboy hat and a colorful Troll wig!
Speaking of excitement, the vegan roast is still a favorite! Dora hoarding it and Terry eating fistfuls. And everyone enjoyed the sweet potatoes, so much so that in the fervor to lick the potatoes off the plates, they caused the rest of the feast to slip onto the floor. The only thing I can’t figure out is who eats what they love first and who saves what they love to eat last. I trust Neggie took a roll or two to eat in bed and I hope she enjoyed a slice of vegan roast, too.
Merry Christmas to all you beautiful Merry Makers! xoxo

What a delightful day with lots of hoots and food grunts. Thank you CSNW Christmas elves for a wonderful chimp feast. Arlene and Michael, if a gingerbread house couldnt survive this crowd a menorrah wouldnt have a chance. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah to all.

I suppose you as carers always look for new enrichment ideas – I’ve just seen a lovely YT video taken in Taipei Zoo (does anyone else here follow D’jeeco’s family? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:), and the zookeepers did an excellent job for the chimps this Christmas. Here is the title if you’re interested: ‘Chimpanzees had a great Christmas treats, animals shape food bags’

I’ll have to look at that, thank you! But tbh, I often find myself looking at zoos and thinking that they could learn from CSNW. There’s so much care given to avoiding monotony, taking likes and dislikes into account (such as Foxie being nervous around bags, doesn’t like sticking her hands in things), keeping their minds busy, and just plain making things fun!

I’m always in awe of the parties you all throw for the chimps, and this was the best ever! “Sanctuary” is an understatement, and I’m glad they all live with such love and excitement. Thank you, all of you at CSNW!
