Story Time with Rayne and Cy

October 19, 2024 by Jenna

This morning, caregiver Kelsi and I took turns reading a dinosaur story to Rayne and Cy. Cy enjoyed listening to us butcher their scientific names, while Rayne seemed to enjoy the pop-up pictures. Afterwards, we let Rayne have the book (Cy didn’t seem that interested anyways) and she enjoyed flipping through it at her own pace. She really loves these types of books! Anytime we put them in the enclosures, she always ends up with it. They don’t last very long without getting ripped up, but it’s fun while it lasts.

Exciting news!

We’re excited to announce that we want you to help us choose the cover photo for our 2025 CSNW Calendar! You can vote once every 24-hours through the end of October, with the poll closing at 11:59pm PT on Jamie-ween!

    Thanks, Jenna!
I’ve often wondered about sending pop-ups for that reason!
Also, thank you for including the “change vote” button! I tend to read the blog on my phone, so scrolling through, I voted without meaning to! (But in the end, my vote was the same )

Does she also like books that have doors/windows to open? I saw one at Target last week that I thought might be too scary for them–halloween themed, with toothy bats

What a wonderful video, and not a pop-up cow, elephant, or giraffe to offend Cy’s literary sensibilities. It appears that Rayne has found a book club. Thank you for sharing that book with the chimpsters.

Ah, the simple pleasures. What joy! I loved how playful you were with the pop-ups as you read. And was impressed at how gentle Rayne was as she fingered them.

Aww! Cy and Rayne were so attentive at storytime! I loved seeing how interested they were. Rayne was so gentle with the pop-up book. I know it probably didn’t last too long afterwards, but it was so cute to see her looking through it!

Rayne was so excited over the pop-up book! After you gave Rayne the book, she was so delicate turning the pages and touching the movable pieces. Pop-up books may not last long but seeing the joy within Rayne and the way she couldn’t wait to scamper upstairs to enjoy the book all by herself makes the short shelf life worth every minute.

I think Cy would appreciate a pop-up celebrity book more than a dinosaur version. I’m actually surprised the dinosaurs popping off the page didn’t scare Cy.

Looking forward to your 2025 calendar no matter who graces the cover. All three choices are perfect! It’s a tough vote.

My pal Raynee is a genuine bibliophil – I’m really proud of her :books::green_heart:
