Pumpkin Season

October 9, 2024 by Jenna

Pumpkin season is finally here! As a Fall-lovin’ girl, this is my favorite time of year. I love watching the PNW trees change color, the air gradually getting colder, and having to unpack my sweatshirts from storage bags. It’s the best!

Today, despite it being in the 60’s, it was a beautiful day for a forage on Young’s Hill and The Bray. Along with vegetables, the chimps enjoyed pineapple as well as mini pumpkins! We don’t usually have pumpkins ahead of Jamieween, so they were extra amped to see them on the menu. Even Queen Negra left her warm cozy nest to venture out to score one of the pumpkins, food squeaks and all.

I’d also like to give a special shout out to Caregiver Chad for snapping these photos for me! I knew he’d be my best bet to get some quality shots of the chimps grabbing the pumpkins. Enjoy!

    What fun pic’s !
Annie looks so excited. Who doesn’t love a mini pumpkin?

She does, doesn’t she!? I was wondering if it was Breezy or if she was just that excited for the pumpkin!

What absolutely delightful photographs! I don’t think that it is possible that they could be more enjoyable. Somehow I don’t think that She Who Must Be Obeyed objects to a pumpkin forage three weeks prior to her birthday.

I am pleased to read that Chad contributed to the visuals of today’s blog. I had wondered if he had gone off on an expedition up into the Cascades with Barn Kitty. Alas, he was able to provide photographs of the chimps without, er, “chimping”, as they say in the photojournalist trade…

With all those little pumpkins Jamie might think today is her birthday! She looks so happy finding her pumpkin. Thank you Chad for sharing your pics of everybody. Especially Negra all cozy and covered up in her favorite nesting site.

It’s so lovely to see Jamie’s group enjoying their mini pumpkins! Annie bipedal holding hers, Foxie doing a pant hoot, and even Neggie couldn’t resist the allure of a fresh pumpkin before Jamieween.
I really needed the pick me up, especially after hearing that Maya at the Fauna Foundation passed on Monday. They’ve had two residents pass this year, it just breaks my heart.
