August slipped away into a Moment in Time

August 29, 2024 by Anna

As August slips away from us we’ve already been feeling those cooler nights in Central Washington. A little preview of what’s to come next month I’m sure.  Summer’s not quite over yet though as we’ve still got some hot temps on the horizon for this labor day weekend. This weather is perfect for forages and outdoor exploration.

I got a couple of photos of Annie during today’s lunch forage. This timeless lady turns 50 in just a few short weeks. Can you believe it?

Missy and Annie

Just Missy:

Foxie and her chow collection (doll in tow).

Negra eating her forage (also with doll in tow):

Bonus! Cy lounging in a paper filled front room:

So hard to believe summer is coming to an end. Luckily the chimps can still get out and about during autumn. Funny how Missy and Annie, old time close friends, have their birthdays so close together. It’s just another sweet connection. Annie is as beautiful today as she was when she first arrived in Cle Elum.

Thanks, Anna, for all these photos!

Annie’s birthday means sunflower season is here!
Glad the days are still mild for you.
This year, maybe we’ll see how the other Californians react to snow!

What beautiful photographs of this late August day; I hope that a combination of good fencing and natural (non-vegan) predators can work to repel invasions of venomous beasts from the property. Yeah, I know that such beasts are part of the Natural world (as are human primates, who are far and away the most venomous of animals), but, I don’t want them near the cattle or chimpanzees.

I trust that Negra enjoyed her lunch date with her doll. I know that they are inanimate objects, but if dolls provide companionship to Foxie and her friends (I’ve seen Burrito* socializing with Dora d’Explora as a chew toy), then I am glad that they have such toys with which to animate their imaginations.

*Or, as I learned from Saturday’s blog, “Burrito” is a nickname belonging to one Mr. Bubba Lewsky of rural Kittitas County, Washington. Given his seeming tolerance for winter weather, and his enthusiasm for snow snacks, it only seems logical that Mr. Lewsky would possess some Russian heritage in his pedigree. If Bubkins didn’t have an established career as a certified chimpanzee, I could see him succeeding as a bear.

Gorgeous photos capturing the heart of the chimps and of course beautiful Annie. She might be turning 50 -which is really just a number-
but what a majestic Lady and she has simply blossomed under your care.Enjoy the end of your Summer (here in Australia we begin our Spring on September 1st) and judging by these photos you still have that glorious Pacific North West sunshine. Make the most of it before those snowfalls!

Annie is truly proof that CSNW must be located on the fountain of youth, because she doesn’t look a day over 25! Annie might just be the prettiest chimpanzee out there and I can only hope to age half as gracefully.
Of course, I also love the photos of explorer Missy and Foxie with dolly in hand and a mouth full of chow. Looks like Neggie’s gotten bitten by the doll bug again, too!
Also Cy! That face! What a dreamboat!
