We would have celebrated Jody’s 49th birthday today. We miss her so much. And we are overjoyed to be able to continue to provide sanctuary to all of the chimpanzees here, and to give them days like today. Watch the video above to join in their joy.

The happy sounds of food grunts and chomping…..couldn’t get any better!

Oh, Diana, wht a nice touch, to put their bags with their children’s names where they would likely go first! Glad to see that at least Neggie and Missy got theirs!
My heart skipped a bit when low-ranking Annie looked furtively around to make sure no one was noticing her with extra treats….and skipped another when I saw her immediately abandon them to go to Jo’s grave! Glad they didntdisappear while she paid her respects.
Poor Gordo being left out of Terry and Willy B’s bro hug, but got some attention from Willy B later….except that the moment Willy B has his big ol’ chimpy chompers on your backside is probably not the best time to initiate your bunny hop!
Did the chimps see the northern lights? How were they? Sadly, we’ve had cloudy skies all weekend…:disappointed:
Diana says
The names on the bags are thanks to Ellen, Sabrina, and volunteer Lizz! I don’t think the chimps saw the Northern Lights. I missed them myself. It seems they were visible here, but the colors were seen with the aid of a camera. The photos some people have shared from this area have been amazing!!

Oh my. I’m a whirl of emotions. Not sure what touches me most….Jody’s birthday with no smiling Jody because she has armfuls of flowers, or the custom bags for the mother’s in the group and the fact you know Negra and Missy so well you knew where to place their bags, Annie discovering your alter of offerings, Neggie’s food chirps, waffles and coconut whipped cream, or all those beautiful colorful flowers. And Cy’s group, so excited and ready to celebrate with each other.
This might be my favorite celebration. Thank you for capturing all these special moments. It was a perfect celebration and a beautiful way to honor Jody and all the chimps. I hold you all in my heart today.

Happy mother’s day to all moms and an especially happy mother’s day/heavenly birthday to dear Jody. I’m glad Annie stopped by her spot to say hello.
The bags with the names of their children were such a sweet touch.

No mentionof the bovines ? Hmmmm.
Cindee says
That’s a good point, Paul! There are two mothers amongst the three remaining.

I dont know what made me tear up most. My beautiful wee budda lady Negra and her delightful grunts of pure bliss or seeing the bags with the names of their children, or seeing sweet Annie, sitting beside Jody as if to tell her all about the wondeeful treats they had, and how much she is missed. i never really say grave or such, as to me, beautiful souls fly high and are always around us, as is beautiful Jody. She is with you all, always by your and her frinds side, chimp, human or bovine. Fly high Jody and we will feel the kisses you send on the wind.
