Moments With Cy’s Group

April 29, 2024 by J.B.

Let me tell you, those toy keys are the most exciting thing to happen in a while. Some of the chimps in Cy’s group are prone to chewing up and ingesting enrichment so we’ve been introducing new items very slowly and cautiously over the last couple years. These are made by Nylabone and we’re optimistic that they will hold up and won’t pose any danger. It’s rare for nearly everyone in the group to have an interest in the same piece of enrichment—since they’ve been introduced, the keys have only been put down a minute or two at a time before they are snatched up again!

As I was sitting down in the foyer to upload some video, Chad noticed Rayne on the security monitor flipping through her magazine on the greenhouse catwalk. It’s amazing how much we would miss without those cameras.

I love seeing how comfortable most of the group has become with being out on The Bray!

Oh Rayne……..how comfortable and happy you look, beautiful girl. It’s wonderful to see them out on the Bray…..and what could be better than a whole pomegranate as a reward for making it that far. Does Willy B still get the apple he used to have for being a good boy? I hope so, we could see how much he enjoyed his treat and remember the reminders if the caregivers were a bit slow in delivering!

Willy B has graduating to eating meals like everyone else, though we still pay special attention to him because he tends to get a bit antsy at times.

Now I wonder if Raynie is going to take up tightrope walking like her next-door neighbors Missy and Jamie? Was she reading a magazine article on that skill?

And speaking of magazines, did anyone else notice that Cy managed to encounter a magazine page featuring an image of Smokey the Bear without objecting? Our Cy is making progress…why it’s worth a Bronx Cheer like those Terry was enunciating!

What does it feel like to have all those eyes excitedly peering at you all at once?! Especially Cy up above! The anticipation of heading outside for the lunch forage was palpable.

I am curious about the new Nylabone keys. I know many a dog who could obliterate those in a day. So funny the keys seemed to have survived chimps (and their teeth!) so far. Keep me posted on how long they last. Hopefully a long time but I’m guessing the flavoring will be the key to their demise! (Pun intended)

Rayne, lounging while reading, just absolutely perfect! Yes. Thank goodness for the installed cameras. After all the excitement from the forage, a new toy, and the applesauce busy buckets, a quiet perusal through some good reading material seems like the best way to end this fulfilling day.

Thanks for packing their day with so many fun opportunities.

Just don’t give Honey B any ideas with those keys! We’ve seen her fiddling with the locks before! 😉
Rayne is so chill!!! Pure relaxation. As for Terry, I love how he blows raspberries even while working a puzzle!

I just noticed Rayne’s forehead! It looks amazing! All of that moisturizing is paying off because she looks great!

why is it we do not hear how the bovines are doing after the death of Nutmeg. i find it very disturbing that you have not posted a single thing since his death!

Hi Paul – The bovines are doing well. Betsy and Honey are hanging out in the winter pasture with Meredith as she regains strength in her foot and we prepare to move them to their summer pastures. We all miss Nutmeg but life is moving forward in the herd and they are thrilled to be eating what little pasture they have access to right now after a long winter of hay. We’ll post more of an update soon, and if you are ever curious about anything, feel free to post a friendly, gentle reminder or request and we’ll be happy to give an update.

The keys are great…so nice to see such interest in them. Great day for a forage. Rayne looks so chill with her magazine. Looks to be quite a good day at the chimphouse!
