Easter was a busy day here at the sanctuary. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to schedule Jake to do some repairs and improvements to the building on the same day as a chimp party. Thankfully, the staff and volunteers (and chimps!) were all good sports about it and we got it all done.
Over the winter, Facilities and Ground Technician Jake, who happens to be a skilled welder, fabricated some new food chutes for Jamie’s side of the building. Food chutes let us safely pass larger foods and enrichment items to the chimps and we have them in all areas of the building except Playroom 1 and Greenhouse 1. Now that the weather is warmer we were finally able to get these new ones installed, along with some new perches for Cy’s group.
Despite Diana’s pronouncement, it’s hard to say who the day’s real winner was: Cy, for discovering the jackpot atop the tower on the Bray, or Negra, for getting eggs, peanut butter, and a leisurely walk through the grass all in one sunny spring day? Let’s call it a tie.
Well, they’re all winners, now that they can each get their fully loaded trays! Thanks, Jake!
I did enjoy seeing Negra be bothered enough to hang on the cage for some peanut butter, and taking a walk just because. Because that means spring is truly here.
I’ve never tried the natural way but have to say….. those eggs looked beautiful… boy I’m going to do some experimenting next year:grin:Glad they had fun….Cy has to his physique up for the next fight….goooo Cy
Now I better understand why Jamie and Burrito were observing Jake so intently. He was installing his custom made (thanks Jake!!) food chutes! Instrumental device for Jamie’s books and Burrito’s toys (perhaps his giant Kongs are too big for the chutes?!) and nut bags. Serious inspection was definitely necessary.
I agree that each side had a winner. What a day for Neggie and Cy! WOW for the view from the top of the new tower. And I don’t remember seeing the peanut butter spinners before. Are they new? Right up Negra’s alley. I also got a big chuckle seeing both boys, Burrito and Cy, enjoying their pink bunny bags!
I’m so excited Outside Time is back in season!!
Yes, Ellen has been busy making all sorts of new food puzzles – keep an eye out for more to come!
“Now the Green Blade riseth…”. The grass on the Bray and Young’s Hill is beautiful. I trust that Neggie, Burrito, Cy partook of the sweet taste of the new bounty. Can lilacs be far behind?
As lovely as the greening of the land is, those who trod upon those two fields are even more beautiful.
Spring has truly sprung when Neggie ventures forth from her nest for a delicious forage! I love seeing her climb up on the caging, too. Neggie just can’t resist peanut butter!
Sweet Dora met the eggs with a bit of her usual suspicion, but I’m glad she realized how delicious they are!
Everyone is waxing lyrical watching that glorious Spring sunshine and Easter festivities video. I loved hearing the pant hoots of delight at the start of the video and those Easter treats looked yummy. Seeing Cy climbing up that ladder was an added bonus and really everyone was a winner. Thankyou all for setting up this fun filled day and making the festivities so very special.I hope the human chimps got to enjoy plenty of scrumptious Easter eggs. You deserve them!
My cat came runnin to watch the video with me when she heard the first squeals. A bonding moment 🙂
Kathleen read my mind. No wonder the chimps were supervising Jake so intensely. And those peanut butter spinners are great idea. But the kicker? the big guys with their little pink bunny bags ROFL.
I swear I think I get just as excited about the new spring grass as Neggie does. Only because I know she’s going to be so so happy. One of my favorite things in all videos is Neggie and her fresh spring grass.
Hey Jake! When will we be getting a blogspot written by you? It would be fun hearing your perspective. I mean, What in the world did you think when you learned that a chimpanzee sanctuary, in Washington State no less! needed a handyman?? I’d really love to hear your stories.
