Presenting the Winner of the Easter Egg Hunt

March 31, 2024 by Diana

It was an exhilarating day (if you are really impatient, scroll down to find out exactly why).

To tell the truth, it didn’t really dawn on me until yesterday that today is Easter, so I was felt lucky to be able to help with the festivities of the day.

I did know there were some party plans in store for the chimps for Easter, including non-commercial eggs from happy chickens that Dr. Erin knows that were dyed using natural dyes (like blueberries and yellow beets) by volunteer Nancy yesterday.

and SO MANY paper eggs filled will all sorts of fruits and veggies that were hidden i both outdoor habitats by volunteer Patti and staff member Ellen for an Easter egg hunt.

It was a gorgeous day, and all the chimps appreciated the forages and the dyed eggs. We actually got quite a bit of footage, but I wasn’t able to get it all put together for a proper video, so look for that tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some photo highlights:

Jamie watching the set-up in the greenhouse from the playroom:

Annie on one of the new structures on Young’s Hill:

Burrito chomping down on a “baby” iceberg lettuce:

Foxie with a tomato she found in one of the paper eggs:

Negra even climbed a structure in search of more lettuce:

The true winner of today’s Easter egg hunt was, hands down, our very own Cy. He marched right outside and went to the new structures on The Bray. Structures that he had never climbed before this afternoon!!!

He deserved today.

Cy’s sister Lucky also was feeling adventurous and climbed the crow’s nest structures that are connected to Ryan’s Lookout:

Thank you to everyone who supports the sanctuary and who donated at year-end to make these structures possible. Look for the Easter video tomorrow!

Those eggs look amazing, Nancy! And some are huge!
Were there enough for everyone who likes them?
Can’t wait for tomorrow’s video! If it makes the Boss smile, must have been a fun spread.

Yes, there was enough for everyone to be served one and extra for the forages!

I’m in full agreement with Linda. The eggs are very cool looking! Thank you to Dr. Erin, happy healthy chickens, and Nancy. I am always delighted by everyone’s creativity and all the great ways to celebrate “natural” and healthy.

Looks like a gorgeous day for a special Easter forage! How fortunate for the chimps. So happy to see Negra up high enjoying her lettuce. And speaking of venturing up high…yay Cy! Love that first photo of him swinging his leg up to mount to landing. Go Cy!! And go Lucky! Looking forward to seeing the video.

I love seeing the chimps taking advantage of the climbing structures. I would love to know what is going through their minds as they sit atop and look out at the scenery.

Looks like everyone was feeling the Easter spirit! Even Neggie couldn’t resist that fresh spring air and the allure of some lettuce.
I love seeing everyone climbing and exploring. It’s so great to see Cy confident enough to tackle the new structure.

Pant hoots and congratulations to Cy. He very quickly worked out where the Easter treats were and what a magnificent landscape. Grest fun all around and I loved seeing sweet Annie up on Young’s Hill. That lady just gets bolder and more adventurous. Can’t wait to follow the rest of the Easter jollifications.

Looks like a truly “sanctuary” day. You all are such wonderful caring and creative human beings. I’m in awe. Look what you’ve done! So many climbing structures. So many choices. Most importantly, you’ve given them the confidence to enjoy them.

Wonderful to see Neggie enjoying one of her favoutite foods in the sunshine, and just look at Cy! They still manage to surprise us! Can he see the cows from his vantage point?

His eyesight would have to be pretty extraordinary to see the cows clearly from that point, but he might be able to see them as shapes in the distance.
