We almost missed it the first time.
I had a few minutes to kill before the chimps’ breakfast and decided to see if anyone was on the Bray. When I exited the greenhouse door I had to rub my eyes. Funny, I thought, that almost looks like Mave out there…
When caring for animals, or anyone for that matter, there are things you can control or influence and things you can’t. For the latter, all you can do is be patient and let them find their own way in their own time.
I guess the other obvious life lesson here is this: If there’s something you are afraid of, just get in a lot of fights and do the scary thing while you’re fighting. The fighting will seem much scarier by comparison, and over time, you will come to discover that you had the power to do the thing without fighting all along. 🙂
Anyway, three cheers for Mave! See you out on the Bray!
Can’t stop crying tears of joy! First tears came when watching what felt like pride mixed with bravery come across Maves face, then more, when good friend and generally wonderful Gordo came to check out the situation and show support, and finally totally losing it when Mave sprung towards her friend full of joy, pride, relief and excitment! I realize I am assigning all these emotions and I wasn’t there but those were the emotions I felt from those beautiful and resilient beings. I have so much gratitude (and a little bit of jealousy) for of all of you and your commitment to all the angels you nurture, love and protect.
Wow! Go, Mave! All the way up on the platform and almost to the top level, amazing!
if there is such a thing as high fives among chimps, that was the moment. But, hugs will do too. In the words of Freddie Mercury, “Don’t stop me now.”
Bravo, Mave:tada::confetti_ball:
You go, girl…what a brave one you are-couldn’t stop smiling watching seeing her climb and joyously enjoy being outdoors. Looking forward to more of her adventures?
Oh my, how delightful (remarkable)!!!! Since I consider Mave quite a Buddha in her own way, evidently she needed to do much pondering and mantra-focusing to muster her bravery. What a woman! How thrilling to watch her continue to ascend. It’s the years of safety and family and comfort and acceptance that have contributed to her ability to make this choice now, seemingly nonchalantly, as if she’d been doing it for years! What a gift for my day seeing this video has been and will continue to be.
Brave Mave, indeed!
Absolutely loved seeing that greeting! Thanks for capturing that, JB!
Only one left!
How great did this moment make all of you feel?! Every ten seconds! :).
People experiencing earth quakes in NY. A total eclipse crosses the country. Mave ventures out on the Bray all by her little self!!! This is turning out to be be one spectacular month!
Marvelous Mave is now Mighty Mave.
Wow! Amazing! In the same day that a solar eclipse shrouds my hometown of Converse in 100 per cent darkness, Mighty, Magnificent Maeve ventures forth onto the Bray and ascends up a level of a pavilion. Coincidence? Alignment of astral bodies? An eclipse is interesting, but seeing Mave demonstrate fortitude and jump for joy makes for the real spectacle! Also, she is flat-out beautiful!
Way to go marveleous Mave. What a day, got to witness a total esclipse and Mave venture out into the Bray twice. We really need to be cool like Gordo and act like it’s no big deal even though we are smiling big for her for being so brave.
Yes!!! I can’t believe it! Mave??? Wow
My heart is just exploding for her. I can’t wait to watch as she ventures and explores more and more.
You all must be just so happy to see all your efforts to provide outdoor space be appreciated by Mave especially. hopefully soon she will be joined by Dora.
Way to go Mave!
New year, new Mave! Just look at that confidence and that relaxed droopy lip face! First Honey B, now Mave, it seems like the girl gang is really finding their mojo this year!
Whoo hoo Mave! The same day I finally saw my first eclipse (not in totality here in Long Island), Mave found her courage. Yay Mave!
MAVE!
WOW!! I loved the hop skip and jump that she gave to Gordo, her joy was unbounded and due to the loving care you give them on a daily basis. I am so jealous you were there to witness this and so pleased that you could share this magic moment. You guys are the greatest! Hugs to Mave!!
