Well, folks, it’s official- there’s only one more sleep ’til Christmas (if you celebrate). 🙂
Caregivers and volunteers have been sorting through generous donations, wrapping up a storm, keeping up with daily chores, and planning for the celebration tomorrow! Thank you to everyone who has donated items off of our wish-lists, every single one is so appreciated!
While the humans have been shuffling about, the chimps have been up to their typical tomfoolery. The other day I was walking by the front rooms in Phase 1, or Cy’s group’s side of the building, and I caught some pretty funny sheet action. Mave and Dora seemed to be playing with someone and the someone was determined to stay under the sheet! Who could it have been? Check out the video for the answer!
And a big, big thank you to our Comfort & Joy Donor of the Day: Virginia K.
Your donation of a set of hugging pillows has brought so much joy to the chimps (and humans) here! After a caregiver or two gave them each a big hug we set them up for Jamie and her group to enjoy.
I’m also super excited to tell you all that it’s SNOWING right now! Nice, big, gentle flakes that aren’t sticking yet, but we’re supposed to get some more tomorrow maybe. Anyone else dreaming of a white Christmas? 🙂
With winter in full swing outside, I thought I’d share some photos from this past summer to remind us all that summer & sunshine will be here before we know it!

That was FUN! And of course I knew it was Rayne. I mean her middle name is sheet! And her face!? Just joy and silliness. And it’s contageous. Brought me joy too.

I was all ready to guess Honey B, until you switched angles….then the backside told a different story :joy:
I have been out delivering meals for a new local business who gifted meals to those who didn’t have one, so I WAS not looking for snow. Now I’m done driving around, I don’t care! Let it snow!
I hope you all, caregivers, chimpy people, readers, have an amazing Christmas! And to those of you who work tomorrow, thank you for the care you’re about to give and the snow you’re about to shovel!
Susan Kathleen Feeley says
As we say in Australia, good on you, Linda, for your kindness in the meal delivery. Yes, let it snow and put that Christmas feel into Christmas. Wish it would snow in Sydney, but pigs may fly on that! All the best to you all.
Linda C says
Thx, didn’t have to deliver as much as I expected. The chef had had help from other “elves” during the day, and sadly, 20-25 meals that hadbeen requested weren’t spoken for,bc… people can be hard to help someti.es. Merry Christmas to you, NOW, already!
Kathleen says
Get out! That video is so funny. I was assuming it was going to be Honey B under the sheet (but my backup guess was Rayne!). Rayne reminded me of Ghost Missy. Missy is another silly gal who enjoys a good old fashioned hiding under the sheet trick. Never gets old! Chimpanzees need to be given more credit for having such brilliant senses of humor.
May sugar plum fairies dance in their beautiful heads tonight for tomorrow they party!
Thank you Virginia for surprising the chimps with those adorable squishy pillows.
Susan Kathleen Feeley says
What a hoot and I loved the laid back sound track. Was Rayne playing peek a boo or just being goofy and zany. While those Summer photos, especislly the one of sweet Annie were lovely, the thought of you all in the wintry snow really set me off, like its a proper traditional Christmas. Thanks for sharing and roll on 25 December when it will be pant hoots all round.

Susan, i’ll trade my apartment in Portland, Oregon winter for your Sydney summer anytime you’re ready. I’ll even include the Christmas tree.
Susan Kathleen Feeley says
Oh’ what s tempting thought! Mind, the humidity here is soooo draining! Thankyou for thinking of the Christmas tree! God bless you.
Gaynell says
It seem Dickens has arrived at the Sanctuary with the ghost of Christmas under that blanket. I’m as excited about the gifts tomorrow as any chimp could be. Let the shenanigans and tomfoolery commence while caregiver elves make thinngs merry and bright.
Adrienne says
Thank you, Virginia for your precious gift! Merry-Snowy Christmas to all residents, half-residenst (I mean, the staff) and friends of the sanctuary, here in Hungary we have both snow and rain during this festive season. Peekaboo-Rayne’s huge smile is a real Xmas gift!
