Between Love and War: Valentine’s Day 2023

February 14, 2023 by Chad de Bree

Valentine’s is a day meant to be spent with loved ones and show affection to them. But as you know, sometimes you can fight with loved ones. J.B. actually just wrote a magnificent blog about conflict and resolution the other. Well today both Jamie and Cy’s groups spent a good chunk of the morning what I will call “bickering.” There wasn’t too much physical contact between everyone, just a lot of screaming. But, also as J.B. mentioned, they were quick to reconcile. What they were all bickering about? It would be hard to say, though I am going scapegoat the six inches of snow and colder weather that came in overnight.

Regardless, everything calmed down once they all realized something special was in store for them today: lots of strawberries, blood oranges, grape tomatoes, radishes, and sparkling blush cider with raspberries and mint leaves! Once their bellies were full of delicious treats, bygones were bygones and everybody had a restful afternoon.

Here are some photos from today:

Missy enjoying her plate of tomatoes and strawberries

And her daughter, Honey B, enjoying the same thing on the other side of the sanctuary!

The devilishly handsome Willy B

Gordo lovingly admiring his radishes

And Dora. Oh so sweet little Dora resting after the parties

Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody!

Could it be that tomatoes, blood oranges, raspberries and such like are foods which bring peace? In any event, I hope that the chimpers in Neggie’s troop weren’t bickering at her today for having apparently seen her shadow when emerging from her nest on the morning of Feb. 2. After all, there’s a half-foot of snow on Young’s Hill to be snacked upon.

I love all of the residents who have refuge at this sanctuary…

Thank you, Chad, for the long video, too!
Whenever I see Neggie come out last, I worry that Burrito has headed to the place where you leave her an easy find over by the tire. I worry that she’s missing out. I’m sure she got something.
Sofía, Jamie wasn’t throwing anything at you today!
Hope everyone had a lovely day!

Oh. and it’s harder to think “sweet little Dora” after hearing about that flying double kick! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I cannot imagine that stress, even in lodging as large as this facility, can’t have the walls close-in occasionally….it is good to know that the resolutions to the disputes come quickly….

Yay! Another super long video. It’s a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift. Thank you Chad!

I guess the way to their hearts is through their stomachs!

I read this today and thought of this blog

“If every single person who has liked you in your lifetime were to light up on a map, it would create the most glimmeringly beautiful network you could imagine.

Throw in the strangers you’ve been kind to, the people you’ve made laugh or inspired along the way and that bright network of YOU would be an impressive sight to behold.

You’re so much more than you think you are. You’ve done so much more than you realize. You’re trailing a bright pathway that you don’t even know about.

What a thing. What a thing indeed.”

What a lovely celebration. I love this video. So nice to see all the Chimps enjoying the Valentine’s themed food. You all do an amazing job to make their days so special. Thank you and I hope everyone there had a wonderful day. Love and hugs to all.
