For once there wasn’t a lot going on today for the chimps or the humans. That happens very rarely in this chimp house now a days! The chimps spent most of their day napping, grooming, lazily playing, or working on some enrichment.
Jody grooming a pile of blankets… oops I mean Negra!
Jamie and Missy spent most of the day coaxing their caregivers over to the small garden where the tomatoes and grape vines were ready to be picked! Of course, we had to oblige!
Terry was a hot commodity today! As I walked by with the camera, Lucky and Terry began grooming.
I took a series of photos of Terry Bronx Cheering (or blowing raspberries) when he and Lucky were grooming. Terry is always Bronx Cheering- whether he is grooming, trying to get our attention, and he even does it when he is working up into a display.
A few minutes later Rayne passed by to join the party. Terry began grooming her and then Rayne reciprocated the grooming.
I found Honey B relaxing on one of the tree leaves. She looked content, but also up to no good all at the same time.
Jamie also found sometime in the day to kick back and relax too.
Sweet sweet Lucky lounging in Oakwood.
I know that I am repetitive in my words and sentiments, but, oh, what beautiful photographs! I love the look on Missy’s face as she contemplates the taste of her favorite fruit/vegetable (technically, tomatoes are fruits, but Missy, et al can be excused if they assume that tomatoes are vegetables). And, those lips of Terry as he makes his Bronx cheers; am I correct to assume that he is a Yankees’ fan?
And my Dear Jody, she is always so considerate, applying her touch to a pile of blankets cradling a Negra. The other night I had the pleasure of Jody’s company in my dreams. I was standing in a garage with the door open when, who should walk up the hill but JoJo? I was pleased to meet her even as I thought, er, that with the harvest season set to commence, perhaps Farmer Jo should be out on Young’s Hill, bringing in the sheaves. Hmm, I looked away and thought to myself, how can I get Jody back home to Kittitas County?
Just then, I turned around again to my visitor. Instead of a chimpanzee, a labrador canine with black fur appeared before me, albeit bearing the same color of eyes as Jody’s and sporting a similar drooped lower lip. “Jody, is that you?”. My guest wagged her tail in the affirmative. I was relieved by the transmogrification, lest Jody miss her rounds on Young Hill as well as with her tending to of her dear friend Neggie.
Never stop Tobin! I love reading your words
Thank you, Paulette. My best wishes to you and yours as you brave the tempest.
Oh, my, Tobin! What visual words you use! I haven’t heard or read the word “transmogrification” in aeons and had to smile when I saw you included it in your post. Very fun! I agree with all you said. What a great dream you had, wagging tail and all. Thanks for sharing these great images and your love of the chimps.
So many photos and every one puts a shine on my day! Lucky Negra, Jody bending down low to offer up a personal facial grooming. Queen Negra didn’t have to budge a millimeter! What a great photo of those two. And it is always a super extra treat to see photos of Lucky. And then there is Honey B, with an expression I would never imagine on her usual dead-pan-stare face. Yes! Kelsi, you nailed it! Honey B “looks content, but also up to no good all at the same time”. What a crack up.
I want a chill day like that!
Yes, that’s what the Beezus do…..I’d be a little scared if I were you, Kelsi!
I know that the photos are just taken wygtc, so not planned…but it seems that lately, Neggie photos always show her in “her” spot on the upper platform, sleeping under a pile of blankets.
Can you guys just reassure me that she *does* indeed get out and about every day? I’m rooting for her and that cake in June!
Now that is my kind of chimp. Lounging in the sun. Question, are there foods that certain chimps just won’t eat, or do they eat everything?
Jamie & Missu.
all is, but that was just a little bit more special than the rest.
thank you care takers. :100:
such a lovely day!!! Love the photos as always!!!
I always love seeing photos of the chimps grooming each other. It seems to be with such intention and tenderness and always warms my heart how they care for each other. Of course I know that sometimes those same pairs end up in squabbles since that’s just the way it is, but I’m glad they have a balance in their interactions between the intensely focused care-taking and the squabbles that occur.
