Heartfelt thanks to the chimpanzees’ long time friend, Donna Hughes, for sponsoring this day so dear to her and her sister, Doreen.
“August 21, 1979 …..The Day Doreen and I moved to New York City. Best thing we ever did. Got to enjoy the Big Apple, with all that it has to offer. Music, theater, art, events, sports, available to us at all times. However, it wouldn’t have meant as much without our pets along the years to share our lives, and of course, Central Park. I miss my dear sister, who passed away in 2019, but still celebrate this day, as she asked me to always do so. It will be spent in Central Park, and I know we can see a blog today with the chimps enjoying nature as well. We both love CSNW, and cherished the day we visited in person. Have a great August 21!”
We think of your and Doreen’s visit to the sanctuary often, Donna, and it means so much that you continue to celebrate your special days with the chimps and all of us. As the chimpanzees wander Young’s Hill and sun-dappled greenhouses, and you wander Central Park, we’re wrapping you and Doreen both in all the good thoughts. May your heart be full of memories magical and wondrous.

Thank you for sharing your birthday with us again, Donna. Every year, as you honor your sister, I think “has it been a year already!?” I hope that the weather in the park is sunny, but not too hot (we topped out at 78 today here on the coast).
Happy birthday
Donna, what a beautiful way to celebrate the day you and your sweet sister Doreen moved to the Big Apple! Your gift to the sweet Chimpanzees, is such a wonderful way to celebrate the big step you and your sister took. All of the amazing chimps are as brave as you two sisters! You’re such a blessing to us all!:revolving_hearts:
Thank you, Donna, both for honoring Doreen in this way and for all your contributions to the sanctuary. And, for the memories I share of NYC where I also lived for 3 years way-back-when. I often went to Central Park and on Sunday mornings would take a bag of crumbs from my homemade bread and spread them on one of the big rocks. The birds, especially Tufted Titmouse (mice) would gather to peck away. Thank you for triggering those lovely memories and for your and Doreen’s love of nature, Foxie and all the chimps.
Thank you all, Friends! The Central Park walk was wonderful, as it always is …..and these photos really made my day extra special! The Foxie One! Trolls and Twin Orange Blossoms and all of her beloved dolls! Love seeing the chimps enjoying the great outdoors! Thank you!
what a wonderful way to remember your sister and the chimps, especially your pal Foxie. l love remembering your day and your sister with you and thinking of you in Central Park. How special! Continue to enjoy New York City.
