Rayne turned 32 today! We’re so grateful to Tobin, Monica, and Paulette for sponsoring this day in her honor. At breakfast we served mangoes, which are a rare treat around here since we can’t store or prepare them in the kitchen due to Annie’s allergy. They were a huge hit. Later, the playrooms and greenhouses were filled with Rayne’s favorite enrichment and a forage of fruit smoothie, bok choy, grape tomatoes, and young coconuts with bamboo straws.
This group is notoriously difficult to photograph, as they prefer to stick to the upper levels of their playroom and greenhouse enclosures, but we managed to catch a tiny bit of the action. Here’s the birthday girl:

Terry (that coconut really sticks in your teeth!):
Dora, who after having her first sip of coconut, had to tell me and the group next door all about it:
As the party wound down, Rayne gathered some smoothie and coconut, went up to the highest nest platform in the playroom (her favorite spot), and made a nice nest.
Happy Birthday, Rayne!
Happy 32nd Birthday to sweet Rayne and a big thank you to Paulette, Monica, and Tobin for helping to make Rayne’s birthday a smashing success!!
that 2nd picture of Rayne shows her pure joy. thank you for caring so well, for her and all the precious souls there.
I love Rayne. I can tell she is smiling but oh my Dora! She is sooo happy!
That 2nd pic of Rayne almost makes it seem as though she’s laughing! Regardless, she’s obviously content in all of them. Thanks to all who contributed!
It looks like Rayne had an enjoyable birthday celebration. I am so glad that she is part of the population who inhabit the Sanctuary. I am also glad that she (and the ever-elusive Bonnie Prince Terry) allowed their photographs to be taken.
it looks like a wonderful time was had by all! thanks for sharing the girl’s birthday with all of us and thanks for everyone’s hard work to make it a special day!
happy wonderful birthday Rayne.
Happy Birthday sweet Rayne !
May you have many more in your wonderful new home :revolving_hearts:
It must be so gratifying to see how much the upper levels are enjoyed, after you put so much thought and care into the design and construction. And, I didn’t know Rayne enjoyed scarves so much, I’ll keep an eye out for machine washable scarves at my local thrift stores. Thanks Paulette, Tobin and Monica, I really enjoy being blog buddies with you!
Birthday gifts come in many forms, such as special sponsorships from friends far away, new foods to experience like mango and old favorites like smoothies and young coconuts with bamboo straws, and celebrating your special day for the very first time in your new home surrounded by your closest friends. What a day!! Dora’s excited expressions sum it up.
Happy Brithday dear Rayne. May the friendships and fun times never end. You are a gift to us all.
LOVE all the great photos!! And Dora! So cute and too funny LOL.
But it’s Rayne’s day and did she score!!! THREE blogs :flushed: (that’s supposed to be the eye-popping emoji. If it’s not, just imagine it is 😉
thank you one and all
Happy Birthday Rayne! what a happy girl you are! such a wonderful day you had and there’ll be plenty more birthdays to enjoy with your friends on all sides. sweet dreams!
first of all i want to say “sweet party” and i am not a veterinarian. secondly, i also lived down on Big Pine Key in the Florida keys and most of the time my counter tops had 20-30 mangoes (in all stages of ripeness or avocados in all stages of ripeness too) and i thought my oldest daughter and myself were allergic to mangoes also. after seeking the advice of a dermatologist he let me know it wasnt the meat part rather the skin that got people 90% of the time. after realizing that i peeled them and reversed the lab chimp (there was an island at that time that the U of Miami leased to test rhesus monkeys and this was supposedly the way they found out) so after i put gloves on and peeled them and served just the fleshy meat i never had a problem again. just a thought….Happy birthday Rayne!
Interesting!
Hi Stevie – Yes, you’re right, the allergen is in the peel. It seems though that some people with extreme allergies can react to surfaces that have come into contact with the peel, as the oil can transfer to countertops, other produce, etc., so we’re extra cautious. We’ve been told that in humans the first couple of reactions can be relatively mild and further reactions can be far worse so we figure it’s not worth taking any chances.
