The day started out on the warm side, considering that we are well into the month of December. The chimps’ greenhouse spaces were cozy all morning.
A storm came through in the afternoon, making the most delightful sound as the droplets hit the greenhouse roof panels.
Just as the rain began, Dora went into her greenhouse, looking up towards the sound:
glancing at me:
and then beginning a glorious chimpanzee response to the rain – a classic pant-hoot (for a classic video of pant-hoots, go here):
Her display was short-lived. She calmly retreated to a windowsill:

I love her wide eyed expression in the second to last photo. Had to laugh at that one. 🙂

There went my Saturday evening! At the bottom of this post I decided to hit the button Chimpanzee Behavior. then I started on the last page, 52, and started watching old videos. 3 hours later Im still watching! after each video I tell myself, just one more, then just one more, then just one more. It was a lovely evening but not what I planned! My holiday cards may be going out a little late…. 😉 but it was so much fun seeing the chimps so many years ago.

I loved your :”just one more, just one more” comment. I know exactly what you mean. They are so addictive. First photo is so sweet and the second one when she looked over at Diana was equally sweet.

Paulette, holiday cards can wait! :smile:I’m glad you enjoyed watching the videos from blogs past.

That’s a great profile shot of a pant hoot, Diana.
There’s also a great one that you have of Foxie, her mouth all pink, in the portrait room.
Thanks for pics of Lil Dora! Happy Sunday!

Fantastic post Diana. she’s a beautiful lady that Dora. so cool to see the progression of her curiosity, concern, enjoyment and peace with it all. At least in that moment

She’s beautiful. Her expressions are precious. Especially in the top two photos. It’s wonderful Dora expressed herslef with a rain induced pant hoot (and it looks like a goood hoot). Made me think about the chimpanzees who do rain dances.

I thought of that, too, Kathleen

The greenhouse sounds like a cozy spot to spend the afternoon. I love to see the photos when they are looking around and taking everything in. I wonder what she’s thinking about?

Great pictures Diana, they tell the whole story including Dora just looking you right in the eyes as if she is saying :
“What?. I just had to express myself woman, and hooting to the rain is the best!”….
And she is so right; we should all try it !
