Lazy days filled with ice

December 5, 2021 by Sam Jones

Today was more on the chilly side, but that didn’t stop some of the chimpanzees in Jody’s group from making their way out to Young’s Hill to collect ice treats from the tires and platforms! They spent a good amount of time out there looking for ice. The rest of the day was spent lounging around in cozy nests up high.

Jody running back to eat her ice in the Greenhouse with Burrito behind her.

Foxie enjoying her ice up high.

Annie stayed out the longest finding all the hidden ice.

Missy also took her ice back to the Greenhouse.

Foxie and her doll hurrying back inside to where it was warm.

Over on the other side of the chimp house, I found Mave relaxing in her Greenhouse all day. Every time I went around to take photos she was there, but in a different spot. Rayne’s group spent most of the afternoon having grooming parties on the platforms in their Greenhouse. It was pretty warm in all the Greenhouses today with the sun and winter panels up.

It was the perfect day to relax and lounge around!

    Thank you, Sam!

We do pass out ice cubes often throughout the year because they seem to really enjoy those as well!

Ice treats and Mave’s feet. I love it! Warms my heart to hear Annie stayed out the longest.

Do we have a chimpanzee emoji? :monkey: We have a primate with a tail here, and I saw some cartoon monkeys, but nothing that conveys the intelligence of a chimpanzee, and gives them the dignity they deserve. Even the spider and scorpion emoji’s are more realistic than the monkeys. I wish I knew how to design these things, I’d come up with an emoji of Negra in her nest, Mave contententedly looking out the window in the sunlight, Cy intently reading a magazine, Jamie doing her daily patrol, Missy running like the wind, Gordo in a box…ok, I’m going to figure this out!

Paulette, you have to be careful with these emoji’s; some of them have double ( dirty ) meanings……just saying…
I usualy stick with the smily-face to be on the safe side.

Beautiful pictures of the chimpanzees enjoying their ice treats. I love Foxie’s doll with the colorful hair.

It’s so interesting to see how much they love ice and snow. Do they like ice cubes as much as the ice Mother Nature provides?

    Mave is a beauty!

They do love ice cubes! Sometimes the chimpanzees in Jamie’s group ask for what we call “night time ice” and we pass out some ice cubes before we close up for the night.
