Special spots

July 22, 2021 by Anna

This afternoon I found Jody relaxing in one of her favorite summer spots, the bottom platform of Greenhouse 1. I have seen her in this pose (with her arm up on the next platform above) more than I can count.

Jody loves to use the upper deck of the greenhouse as her personal table. We’ve captured the moment many times throughout the years:

Just as you probably have a preferred side of my couch or a designated spot at the dinner table, the chimps all seem to have favorite places they spend their time.  Their preferences change with weather, season and time of day.

Honey B in one of her commonly found spots in the chute.
Negra in her usual Greenhouse nest.
Upside down Jamie on her barrel. The best spot to casually monitor the humans from Playroom 1.
Gordo has already decided he enjoys the doorways that go out to the greenhouses.

Talk about special spots! Every time I see a picture of them my heart swells. Everyone of these beautiful people have a very very special spot in my heart.

May I concur with your sentiment? I have the very same feeling every time I see a photograph or a video of one of the residents of the Sanctuary.

Love seeing Negra all wrapped up in her fur blanket! She seems to love the warmth. Seems like something older humans crave as well.

Each has a special spot in my heart too! Den mother Jody’s favorite spot seems perfect for looking over her family and soaking in the sunshine (or in the case of her last photo, stuffing her cheeks full of celery). You know your house is a home when you have a favorite place within that’s all yours.

What always puts a smile on my face is seeing how happy the chimps are.
Being able to choose where and when you want to go somewhere or eat or
just hang out is FREEDOM. These beautiful chimps finally have freedom to
choose thanks to all at the sanctuary. Congratulations.
