We are still in the midst of the heat wave. Thankfully, today is not in the hundreds, still hot, but there is a nice breeze going. With warm weather means lazy play sessions, even Burrito has slowed down just a touch. Today, while Sofia and I were finishing up cleaning the playroom we found Annie laying on the cool floor while Missy’s toes dangled down below. Annie was grabbing Missy’s toes, fingers, and giving her little pokes while Missy sat above her on a barrel. It was a lazy game for Annie and Missy, but it was all they could muster. When these two really play it might start out slow, but eventually it ends with them laughing, wrestling, and running around grabbing toes. As you will see in these photos we are all preserving our energy. Don’t worry though chimps and humans have had lots of fluids and Gatorade not to mention lots of fans and misters going too!
As I drove up the driveway to the chimp house this morning Happy Club popped into my mind. Some of you blog followers are familiar with it, but if you read Diana’s blog a while back. What jogged my memory was seeing 4 or the 6 new chimps watching me pull up the driveway. All of them in the greenhouse enjoying the warm summer breeze. It brought a smile to my face. So, I thought I would share a few happy things over the last week.
- Well, first of all I am so happy to have the Lucky 6 home! The fact that they are settling in so well also makes me overjoyed.
- Terry and Cy are absolute hams! I am truly smitten.
- Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being in Rayne’s company. I was cleaning GH3 and she was in GH2. I sat with her for a while. She is very sweet.
- Missy dangling her foot in front of Annie as a taunt to play.
- Last week Negra requested that J.B., Diana, Anna, and I all dance for her. We immediately did as we were told. It makes me smile because that is what sanctuary is supposed to be, right? Negra tells us what she wants and then we do it :).
- Dora. Just seeing Dora makes me happy.
Burrito staying cool in his castle.
Gordo cooling off in his favorite spot.
Rayne popping in to say hi.
Honey B hanging out in her favorite spot, the chute.
Jamie melting into her nest.
This heat hasn’t slowed Terry down!
Dear sweet Annie, I’d love to meet you one day! You take such great care of those beautiful animals, and I thank you all again for everything you do for them. You’re my heroes! And thanks for sharing your family photos, I love the whole bunch!
Respectfully yours til the cows come home,
Caroline
speaking of cows…where are they hanging out..?
They are doing good! They were able to stay cool in our heat wave.
Such a sweet video of Annie and Missy, they are so cute together. Thanks for the photos Kelsi, they are wonderful and I’m happy that everyone is coping in the heat. Oh, I must say that Terry is certainly a handsome mister! Thanks for the wonderful job you all do.
How sweet! Nice to see a lazy play day. Have you seen any laughter games from the Lucky Six yet? It will be wonderful to see that they’re comfortable enough to really play and enjoy themselves. Perhaps they need to read Burrito’s book on how to have fun and be silly every moment!
Thanks, Kelsi, for the narrative and great pics! It warms my heart (and not only from the heat!) just to be aware that the sanctuary even exists and has such soulful, remarkable and knowledgeable humans helping all the living beings there to achieve their highest potential despite whatever limitations may exist (like fencing). That includes the bovine family, too, of course. I’m gobsmacked every day when I see the pics of the goings on. Jamie sleeping with her boots nearby, or holding onto one! Burrito showing everyone the true meaning of life: Playing and Breathy Panting!! Willie B displaying because everyone needs to remember how powerful and gorgeous he is! All of the antics of each of them, and now the new family. It’s just amazing. It’s also pure Love in action for which I’m grateful beyond words. Thank you!
Hot lazy day play, Missy and Annie always bring a smile to my face. Annie’s hands are so graceful. Thanks for the mention of the Happy Club, I had to reread the blog by Diana. It’s an excellent idea, especially after this past year. Knowing CSNW is on this earth is #1 on my list, your blog posts are #2, and welcoming Cy’s group into their new home is #3. Thanks for todays video and photos Kelsi (#4!). Laughing over Jamie using the slinky as a pillow. And Terry! Yup, I can see I am going to love this fellow. He’s looking all piloerect with his feet on the grass. So many things making me happy….
The Queen requesting a Command Performance of dancing humans. I can easily envision Neggie nodding her head up and down and letting her lower lip droop in appreciation.
Yes! Oh Tobin, I can see it too. It’s just too wonderful! I wish that moment was captured on someone’s camera.
So, wait, Kelsi…were you all dancing at once!? That’s a mental picture in itself! Were you?
Annie’s beautiful, long hands, and Missy’s stubby little feet. Perfectly matched! Those two are something! With all of the playmate options, they stick together like glue.
I keep thinking back to the amazing pics of Gordo and Dora….and realized that I think Dora also has the same hairdo as Foxie…just a bit of a ducktail near the shoulders!
You made me laugh out loud ( on my own..) Kelsi when I read that The Queen made you all dance ! I would love to see that…And HOW does she tell you that thàt is what she wants???
Lovely video of Missy and Annie, but what I find hilarious is that foot that shows behind the side of the barrel, not moving, just lying there….( Jamie??)
Keep breathing and this heat too will pass…..

They all look so content and why shouldn’t they? You make such a wonderful world for these magnificent creatures! God is happy!
