This morning, I was sweeping paper and other garbage into a pile in the playroom when Jamie started gesturing towards to me. It’s typical of her to ask for drinks from the hose while we clean but we hadn’t pulled the hose out yet. I soon realized that she was gesturing towards the pile of garbage, and upon closer inspection I saw that I had swept up some torn out and crumpled pages from one of her boot books. She wasn’t done with those yet! I picked them up and she ran excitedly to the day nest she had made in the corner of one of the front rooms. As I handed the pages to her, she emitted a low moan and stuffed them into her pelvic pocket.
Later, while scrubbing the floors, Diana pointed towards Jamie in the front rooms and suggested that I come take a look. She had filled a bucket with water from the lixit fountain, dumped her primate chow into the water, and was stirring the concoction with a plastic tube. She then used to tube to sip the chow water from the bucket and emitted a low moan each time she popped a soaked chow biscuit into her mouth.
She’s definitely her own person. So it should have come as no surprise when Diana caught Jamie taking carrot-peeling matters into her own hands the other day.
Oh Jamie! I completely get it! You never know when you might need to refer to those pages again!
Jamie never fails to amaze me with her intelligence and using things she has around to work on what she wants. If only we could accurately measure her IQ, she would be up there with Einstein, and probably outclass him!
I completely agree! Jamie is exceptionally bright and intuitive. I am so impressed by her!
Jamie is certainly a very special person. She is just so smart and she has us all wrapped around her little finger. I love her ?
I love Jamie.
The more I know about her, the more fascinating she becomes. 🙂
Oh my…she was trying to peel her carrot! How precious!
Speechless.
I love Jamie
Jamie is so intelligent and I love her too. I am so thankful she and all of the Chimps and others are with all of you at CSNW. I can’t imagine her being anywhere else where her special requests may not be recognized or obliged. To stop sweeping and notice her gesturing towards the papers you are cleaning up is just one example of how in tune you are with those special people J.B. The relationships all of you have with them are remarkable. Thank you for taking such amazing care of them.
I agree with all of the above statements. Jamie is such a treasure! How fitting that this video should post exactly one year from that poignant video featuring Jamie and J.B. commiserating silently through a glass barrier. It was early in the pandemic; behind J.B.’s mask one surmises his worries about the well-being of the residents of the sanctuary and the challenges facing all who live and work there. Jamie notices the mask and presses her chin against the glass, as if to offer reassurance to her employee.
I hope, one year later, that we are beginning to get on top and over this nightmare. As always I am so grateful for the humans who provide care and a chance to live to those who reside at the sanctuary. Likewise, being able to read about and see pictures and videos of the chimpanzees, cattle (and an occasional canine or barn kitty) has been a lifeline to my soul during this difficult time. Thank you, all of you.
Beautifully said, Tobin. Yes, my heart just swells like the Grinch when I see the marvelous Seven and Three, and soon the Ten! with all their graces, and foibles, and idiosyncracy. Each is a treasure but Jamie…?.. she’s something else altogether.
That’s one of my favorites, Tobin. Amazing that you noted that that “J Crew moment” happened exactly 1 year ago today. I said then it’s one of those moments where one must feel that one’s work is recognized beyond belief, a moment where “I’m glad we’re both here” is expressed, albeit silently.
Once again, we have an example of how the size of this sanctuary makes it so much more amazing. You know Missy will peel her own carrots, in her own way. You know Mr B likes to play with, and be tickled by, his food first. And you know Jamie likes hers peeled….and you’re able to cater to all of them.
Whenever I see one of Jamie’s shining moments, I always wish, though in my heart I know it’s not likely, that the person who used her in show biz sees her today and feels regret for what they did.
Thanks for sharing with is once again, JB, the wonder of Jamie.
I couldn’t stand it, I had to come and comment on this video.. OMG, I am in awe of how intelligent they are.. I was so shocked to see her peeling a carrot. It goes to show you how closely they watch you care givers.. I can just imagine how amazed you caregivers must be on a daily basis.. Great job you all are doing!
Oh sweet Jaimie, she is such a character, and always thinking. Oh my gosh I can’t get over it! Independent, clever, loving, strong and very happy by the looks of things! Thank you all for taking such great care of all of those beautiful, wonderful animals!
Much love,
Caroline
Amazing lady?
