Give Them a Show

February 24, 2021 by Kelsi

We often see the seven put on a show for the three and vice versa the three do big displays towards the seven. Some can be to show off or impress each other, some are to warn or threaten, and others might be because things were getting a little chummy and they wanted a reaction from someone on the other side. In the winter, we have to close the chute off at night. We tend to shift the three up into the mezzanine in the morning. That way we can clean the front rooms and chute right away so we can let the three have access to their outside enclosure as soon as possible. For the seven, we try to shift them into the front rooms or green house so we can clean the playroom first. This is my long-winded way of explaining that once we have finished cleaning the phase 1 front rooms and the playroom it is the first time the three and seven have seen each other since the day before. The playroom gives a great view of the chute. So, when the seven are shifted into their freshly clean playroom we often hear the chimps yelling or displaying at each other. It’s short lived. However, Jamie occasionally shows off a bit for Willy B and she definitely had his attention! Willy B is always stealing glances at Jamie, I mean who wouldn’t!

After her big display, it was time to settle into a good book, or two, or three!

And since I was there to hand her some books she agreed to have her photo taken.

It’s Wednesday, so we need some bonus photos!

Negra was the first one out this morning!

She was having a craving for fresh snow.

Jamie <3.

Jamie and Missy thinking about grabbing some snow snacks too.

I found Mave rolling around in this blanket.

I took this photo on Thursday or Friday when it was very cold. Honey B grabbed the biggest blanket and sat out in the chute.

Oh Jamie, please, never change. I lover her, she is incredible. Would love to hear Willy B’s response to Jamie’s drum solo serenade. Thanks for her close ups Kelsi.

Negra. At first I was shocked hearing she was first out on a snowy day. But yes, of course she was, for a snowy food snack, why not?!

And I think it is simply wonderful that Honey B enjoys hanging out in her chute. Maybe she’ll never go outside but she sure takes advantage of the security and comfort the chute offers allowing her to enjoy the fresh air and scenery in her own personal way.

Great pics and video, Kelsi — thanks! I’ve never seen Jamie display like that before (being the relative newcomer that I am in comparison with many others folks who’ve been involved for years) and it just thrilled me! What a powerful soul she is. And her books, of course. I love hearing about their days, seeing the chimps in their daily antics and spaces, being a part of the wonder of it all. What a gift CSNW is in my life! Thanks to all who are involved — supporters, staff, chimps, bovines, and even the bobcat and the little bear! Much gratitude…

There are a couple where she’s banging away, Marya.
      Here’s a short one.

I saw this yesterday and watched it on YT several times, Kelsi, thanks! Who’s trying to get Willy’s attention up on the catwalk? Almost looks like Neggie or Missy.
I will never tire of hearing “Negra was the dirst one out the doir today”. Music to my ears!

Oh my goodness…how a phone can autocorrect to nonexistent words is beyond me.
“The first one out the door”!

I’m kinda new to the chimps. All I know is Burito has stolen my heart forever!!!
My question is why are Mave, Willy B, and Honey B separated from the Seven? I saw a video of them together with the Seven…What happended?

That was when they were hoping to integrate the 2 groups. It didn’t work. It lasted about a week, and then, one morning about 4am, there was a dreadful fight, and Burrito came out of it the worse. It’s a shame, there are so many things in common….Jo and Mave eat layibg down, Mave and Missy like to wear 1 sock, Jamie and Honey B like to make forts, the ladies adore Willy B, and he likes to be adored….:(
