Ordinary

January 7, 2021 by Anna

Today was just an ordinary day at the sanctuary. Considering the chaos in the world right now, “ordinary” seems like a VERY good thing to be experiencing. Let’s all take a short break and drink in a little bit of that sweet sweet “ordinary.”

Simple, ordinary moments like…

Missy building a nest in the greenhouse:

Mave (right) grooming Willy B (left):

Willy B looking handsome:

Mave coming along to interrupt my Willy B photo shoot:

And turning it into a Mave photo shoot:

This raffle ticket nest I found in the playroom:

And just a peek at our new (coming soon) normal.ย  Here you can see Honey B playing chase with Anthony in the window.ย  The photo is backlit because we have electricity in phase 2 now (!!!) and you can see the staircase going up to a loft in one of her new (coming soon) playrooms!!

Cheers to the ordinary!

Nesting, grooming, photo bombing, posing, repurposing raffle tickets, playing – AAHHH. I know CSNW has a much more important purpose than to comfort fans of the sanctuary but thank you, thank you, thank you.

I love the blogs and videos and pictures you post! Is it possible to post some pictures of all the gifts and goodies the chimps received for Christmas? We sent some gifts for the chimps and were hoping they got there. Thank you for all the work all of you do for all the precious chimps! ?

Hi Diana! Thank you so much for the gifts! We posted a Christmas video blog where you might be able to see something you sent but we can’t always get photos of everything. Also, you should be receiving a thank you note from us as soon as we finish processing our holiday donations (unless the items came without a gift tag). Processing holiday donations takes a bit longer because everyone is so generous! If you let me know what you sent I can check with other staff to confirm we got it!

    Yay to a new playroom!
Do you think it will be hard to teach them to shift, as you do with the others, Anna? I mean, obviously, you shift thrm now, but with a bigger space, will it take some more training/habit building?
As handsome and imposing as Mr Willy B is, there is a slightly spacy expression to his face….sort of like Johnny Carson used to look!

Linda…I commented before I read the comments, and I said he reminded me of Sean Connery, but youโ€™re right, that picture of Willy B. looks exactly like Johnny Carson!!!

Lol, in grad school I knew a guy with a slightly large head and prematurely graying hair who often had the same look, even thoughhe was an engineer/very smart. And at work, there used to be someone who looked so much like Johnny, hr could have moved to CA and written some bad checks!

Hopefully it will be easier with more spaces to choose from!

Thanks for this delightful distraction Anna! I’m seeing artist visions when I look a Mave today. See if you agree with me. In the top photo I see a Cubist Picasso Mave. In the photo labeled “Mave (right) grooming Willy B (left)” Mave creates her own personal version of Rodin’s sculpture “The Thinker”. And in her close-up shot I am feeling a little touch of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa smile. : )

I love the three photos of Missy in her neon nest. How is it Willy B always looks dashing โ€” Cary Grant dashing. And the lights are on and the Californians are Home! Having electricity is much better than just palin old ordinary, this is super exciting! Willy B, Mave and Honey B must be so curious now.

Thanks Anna for letting me daydream while enjoying just another ordinary day at CSNW.

I totally see the Picasso-all elbows, knees, and shoulders there, plus, the cinder blocks just emphasize it more.
And a slightly more bemused Mona Lisa!

How right you are, Kathleen. The top photograph struck me as having a cubist look to it.

I was amazed how Mave’s entire form create an almost perfect rectangle in that top photo. Flexibility I am jealous of!

Indeed they make ordinary so special! I agree with Kathleen that Willy B is Cary Grant dashing.. just a dreamboat. Mave’s clearly planned out poses are just precious. Missy doing what Missy does, Everyone doing what they do.. including all of you. It is a GLORIOUS form of ORDINARY! Thank you all.

My husband and I were looking at Willy B.โ€™s close up, and we seem to think he possesses a look of 1) wealth, 2) sophistication, and 3) extreme intelligence. My husband said he looks like he should be wearing a smoking jacket, and I think something about him makes me think of Sean Connery. Not sure what it is about Willy B., but he sure is a charming fellow!!!

Or, to paraphrase what Sean Connery recited in some of his films, “My name is B, Willy B.”

Lovely blog today Anna; nothing wrong with ordinary! It is the basis for Extraordenary.
Just look at that matching pink and yellow blanckets and pink and yellow raffleticket nest.
Is n’t that extraordenary…..any idea who’s nest it was?

      And an afterthought:
Does Mave ever gets groomed by anybody?
Or does she have so much to give because she is so full of love?

      • Linda C says

        January 8, 2021 at 7:25 pm

I just asked JB this last week! Because yes, it seems like she’s always the groomer or the tickler. JB said they reciprocate, but yes, she’s a “giver”. I hope she gets more attention when the other 6 come, if they can merge. She deserves it

Who was the lucky raffle winner? (I’m still laughing…)

I always love closeups of Mave because I adore those gorgeous, arched, & freckled looking eyebrows of hers…When she was grooming Mr. Willy B, it seems like she’d taken a short break so she whisper some secret to him…

I concur with everyone else who’s commenting about how dashingly handsome
he is…It looks like he’d intentionally “posed” himself for that terrific portrait shot…I’ve always thought Willy B has an air of royalty about him…Like he should be wearing an ascot… : )

I’m also cracking up at Anthony’s photo because it looks like he was wearing some kind of “contraption” on his head while he was playing chase with Honey B…(Is that a firehose…?)
Anyway, t’s just so funny, & talk about the timing of that shot…
