Ice-capades

November 12, 2020 by Anna

Ahhhh that time of year has arrived where the chimpanzees scurry around Young’s Hill, picking up bountiful mouthfuls of snow and ice along the way.

Burrito is a real ice eating enthusiast. This afternoon we spotted him climbing all over the Escher structure searching for the cold stuff.

Snow is more fun to eat than to walk on:

Apparently, the best snow is the kind that you find on the outdoor platforms. Here Burrito waits in line behind Foxie so he can sample this particular snow pile.

Missy and her mouthwatering treat:

Makes me want to mail you some of our snow and ice…um..hm… probably wouldn’t work out too well and we all love to do the same – enjoying snow is a pleasure like no other. Great photos that tell this wonderful story. Thank you Anna!

He has been in the outdoor chute when the sun comes out but is definitely a fair weather fan!

    Do Chimpanzees get “brain freeze?

Hmmm good question. I think so since they have similar nerve endings to humans. We’ve seen Foxie eat snow until she is shivering!

Burrito looks like he’s trying his hardest to levitate above the ground, so he doesn’t have to touch the snow with his feet. Doesn’t stop him though! Delightful photos, thank you.

It’s so fun to see them enjoying the snow. And this is just the beginning of many more snow days to come! Burrito is so cute waiting his turn. Thank you for the beautiful pictures.

I love my chimpanzee cousins! Thanks for sharing them with the world. I wish I could thank each one for standing in for us humans. They certainly didn’t volunteer; they weren’t given the choice. I’m so thankful they get to choose whatever they wish and grateful that the staff does anything they want. At first I didn’t realize just how happy they are there with you guys. With the exception of Queen Negra, every day is a new adventure for them. I find Negra and myself may have been twins in another life. I love my “nests” and pillows and I’m happiest when I am in my “nest”!

Such fun to see them enjoying their snow snacks! Especially Burrito. He’s incredibly cute sitting next to the gals, patiently waiting for Foxie to finish. Little Missy looks quite please too.

Sorry you are getting snow but happy everyone enjoys the magic of it, even if it’s just a taste.
