As we explained recently, we’re taking extra precautions and wearing masks (that we reuse) whenever we are in the chimp house.
The chimp-proof windows that separate the playroom and the greenhouse are a great safe place to interact with the chimpanzees.
The video above was taken during a break in cleaning and shows a very sweet side of Jamie, who is known as the quite serious and often demanding alpha female.
I just love the way she was interacting with J.B.

Absolutely lovely interaction. She wants to groom you Jamie! Im smiling and jealous! I have mixed feelings about my experience with the wild chimps in Africa. One is that we interfere with their lives and get way too close. I am ashamed to say I was one of those tourist but it was the most exciting, amazing experience of my life even though I feel guilty being there it was weird. We shared the path with the chimps and they walked around, us looking up at us curiously. I was in heaven.

Had to watch this again, first thing this morning with my cup of coffee. Couldn’t think of a better way to start my day. To share such an intimate moment with a dear friend from another species speaks volumes about our similarities. And yet we humans denigrate those of our own species who appear different from us. Jamie shows us that when we see others for the beauty they bring into our lives, everyone’s life becomes enriched. Jamie is so wise. (She sees with heart and her head) Oh to be your boots in that moment J.B.! Reward factor: Priceless.
