The Seven got off to an early start on Young’s Hill this morning, taking advantage of a short break in the near-constant rain we’ve been having this winter. Jamie took some of her breakfast to go, perhaps leading Missy to regret not saving any of her own.
Negra and Foxie waited for their neighbors to appear in the chute.
Missy and Burrito completed the first of many patrols.
Honey B, Willy B, and Mave continue to be enthralled with their new mirror. Honey B gazed at her reflection for a while this morning and later watched herself chew gum.
She managed to look dignified in all of the photos I took today, but the rest of the time she was making all of her human and chimpanzee friends laugh with her antics.
Willy B has been spending his time in front of the mirror investigating some teeth that appear to have gone missing.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the chimps have started to develop a new routine, the highlight of which is the pre-dinner display. Most of the chimps engage one another through the windows between the playroom and chute but Foxie has developed her own signature move, which involves pant hooting in front of the Howdy Door and then launching into a running double kick. After each kick, she listens intently for a response from the three on the other side of the wall. If she hears them, she screams and runs to her group mates for reassurance; if there’s no response, she launches another assault on the door.
While Foxie can work herself up into a frenzy this way, her friends don’t take her too seriously, as evidenced by Annie’s nonchalance.

Love the “Mirror, mirror, on the wall” Pictures.
I think little Foxie needs the excitement and drama of acting upset,
Is that a category for the academy awards? she would win, hands down, and I would love to hear her acceptance speech π
Marcie says
Itβs best actress in a drama, CeeCee. Which is a tough role with Jamie and Honey B giving stellar performances as well.

Great seeing everyone (even Negra, wow!) out on the hill today. And who knew Honey B was such a lady. A lady always looks dignified when being photographed.
J.B., I need you to refresh my memory. Was it Foxie and Jamie who never had the opportunity to directly interact/live with the New Three? Could this be what’s behind Foxie and her nightly pre-dinner display? Is she still curious (and maybe a wee bit fearful or anxious or whatever) as to who these three chimps really are? Funny that this is her new routine and I love how she looks like a big fuzzy blur in the photos. And yes, it appears Annie and the Troll have the same nonplus feeling over it all.
Never a dull moment….
Marcia says
That’s right, in all the kerfuffle with Mr. B. I’d forgotten that those two never had the chance to meet the three. So she hears the fights and each time sees the resulting injuries to her good buddy Burrito. That could be enough to make a girl grow a few grey hairs I imagine.
Fantastic photos today. It must be so fun for them to check themselves out in the mirrow. Also Annie, sitting so casually while the fuzzy blur is whizzing along is priceless. It’s like she’s watching her nightly tv program. The Who’s Behind the Howdy Door Show. Somebody give the girl a bowl of popcorn1

Darn typos. Sometimes the text goes behind the submit button and it won’t scroll, so I can’t proofread it.

Don’t feel all alone Marcia, because I think it happens to all of us… : )

Hi Kathleen. I’m pretty sure Foxie was the only one who never got to interact with the Cal-3. I remember being very hopeful that Jamie found a good friend when she seemed to bond quickly with Mave. Thankfully, all the girl-gang except Negra were in Phase I during Burrito’s fateful introduction.
Linda C says
You’re right, Marcia, but she did get to meet them, briefly-we just didn’t see it-we heard about it.
That was what caused the first major setback- she was super nervous, and they said Burrito must have fed off that energy and reacted.
Burrito, of all chimps, being the one to start something!
Yeah, who would have expected the two that didn’t fit to be Honey B and L’il Foxie? I’m still sad.
J.B. says
Kathleen – Foxie and Burrito were the last to join when we were attempting the group intro strategy, so Foxie only lived with the new three for about 30 minutes and it was not under the best of circumstances. So she may have some apprehension because of that, although Jamie displays even more and she was thrilled to live with Willy B and Mave.
One thing I was going to discuss on the blog but cut out due to time was the nature of these displays. I think of them more like fans of opposing teams on opposite sides of a stadium. It’s fun to jeer at your opponents and rally your team, but you don’t necessarily want to harm anyone. At least not all the time. For Foxie it seems to be her way of testing them, as she is naturally suspicious of new things. But if we were to attempt intros with her again I would honestly not know what to expect.
Kathleen says
Ah yes! Thank you J.B. for untangling my confused mind. Now I remember that it was Foxie and Burrito (and not Foxie and Jamie) who were the last two added into the full grouping. And thank you for the Team Spirit explanation, it makes perfect sense and it makes this post all the funnier. I was thinking that little Foxie might be shy or fearful but I prefer and appreciate your perspective. These photos of Foxie (and bored Annie and Ms. Troll) are seriously too funny.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my silly question. If you and your staff ever feel like holding an online “Master Class” I’d be the first to sign up! (hint hint….what a fun fundraiser right?!) Or maybe you could have us pay to attend as client observers) your classes at Central Washing University. Sorry, I’ll stop now, but I can dream can’t I? : )

I love that analogy, JB!

They are such a hoot ~ oh, pun intended I guess, just love hearing about their antics. Thank you so much!! Love and hugs to you all…

Ladies and Gentlemen, Chimps and Chimpettes, at the Howdy Door it’s [drum roll please] the Flying Foxie!
Linda C says
Hi, J.B.
When you started describing the Flying Ms Fox, I was thinking, “no,sir, I need video!”. But the price really do the trick!.
Like Kathleen, I love not just seeing Neggie out on the hill, but I love that she and Foxie are the first ones out!
I feel like Missy is thinking that she wishes she were brave enough to steal that chow from Jamie, as payback for all of the times Jamie has stolen hers!
Finally, while Willy B is missing a tooth, he sure seems to have kept the ones that count!
Lynn Gold says
It’s funny how the troll doll is still standing& waiting as the flying Foxie does her best karate moves on the Howdy Door.???
Jo Arroyo says
Hoot, hoot, hoot, pant, pant! Our morning coffee, start the day with a huge smile read! We love, absolutely adore the chimps!
Cara says
Great photo series!
Vicky says
It’s not surprising that Willy, Mave and Honey are spending a lot of time in the mirror. Can you imagine seeing your reflection for the first time and realizing how beautiful you are? Hopefully, now that they know how pretty/handsome they are, they will remain the sweet, loveable people that they are and not get all full of themselves!
Linda C says
Lol, it might be a little late for Mr Willy B! With so many females screaming over you, and the other dude dying to be your friend, I guess an inflated ego is to be expected!
I’m wondering whether Foxie’s kicks are “one swing through the arms +double kick” or “swing, kick, swing kick” π
J.B. says
One swing with a double kick π
