It’s 3:28 pm as I flail about at this computer and I do not have a single, solitary photograph of any one of these beautiful ten chimpanzees for the blog. Dinner is served at 3:30 pm. It remains to be seen what I come up with, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for anything too spectacular from me. 😉
The chimp house morning began with a wild-ish pre-breakfast scuffle in which dear, sweet Annie began screaming like a banshee and chasing Burrito around the playroom. We’re not quite sure what Burrito did to vex Miss Annie so, but it’s not really our business outside of tending to everyone’s well-being. Unfortunately, in Burrito’s efforts to avoid said banshee, the incision on his foot opened up a bit requiring him to return to his bachelor pad in the front rooms again for a couple extra days. We were so close! But don’t feel too badly for him. He’s had volunteer caregiver, Lizz, at his beck and call aaalllllll day. Just as she should be, of course, and his laughter could be heard throughout the chimp house. Not to mention I’m pretty sure he’s eaten his weight in snow.
In other news, Willy B went full rockstar in the chute giving the six girls in the playroom a thrill with lots of hooting and hollering to jazz up their snow ridden afternoon. Especially Jody who flung her body against the window while waving at him and doing her patented dinosaur moan of happiness. Honey B has been swinging around and flailing about in stacks of paper all while wearing a green and white striped toe sock.
Oh! Chad saved the day! (Thanks, Chad!!) He just managed to capture a couple photos of Honey B and Mave in fort building mode while they patiently await dinner (which is now a tad late as per the banging on the caging from Negra!!). We’re off to toss the baked potatoes and onions in the snow to cool them off tout de suite!

Sounds like a fun day, except for Burrito’s injury, and then except for his special care.

I know you titled your post “Caregiver Woes”, but I can’t stop laughing and smiling. Who needs photos when every word came to life before my eyes as I read. I hope Burrito’s toe heals quickly, poor chap. Thank you Lizz for brightening his day today! And thank you too Chad for snapping the pics of Mave and Honey B, the perfect ending to Katelyn’s update.

Exactalackly! In fact I think sometimes that words woven by a talented weaver are way better than photos. I had no problem envisioning the chaos of the day and especially got a laugh thinking of Jody flinging moaning and flailing to get Willy B’s attention and Honey B dressed in striped socks and surrounded by fluttering sheaves of paper, while outside, in the midst of all this chaos, you can see potatoes and onions flying through the air trailing steam.
I mean, really… Photos? Who needs ’em.
Maybe tomorrow.
You’re a talented bunch of wackos. :o)

I totally agree with Kathleen. Pictures were not necessary today. I pictured everything just perfectly, in my mind’s eye, reading your eloquent words, Katelyn. Thank you for taking time out of your *very* busy day to bring us along.

Your blog gave me a big smile!
I am sorry Burrito hurt his toe again but it sounds like he is happy and well taken care of – as it should be.

A wonderful post Katelyn even if Chad had not capture the 2 cute pics. How stressful for the caregivers to be alarmed by a scuffle involving Mr B again. He really does mange to get himself in the thick of it on a regular basis… The best part as I read this is that the “sad” thought of Burrito being returned to his bachelor pad is that it is such a comforting, safe and FAR superior place to where he spent so many years… It’s truly grand that he can be in such a caring environment.. with his own “person” who enriched his day.. What a wonderful home the 10 have… Thank you all!

“Full rock star”, lol, Katelyn, I love it! Almost a pity you don’t have other chimps to put Honey B or Honey B and Mabe with, so that he and his groupies could be together!
Feel free to recycle pics…some of us might catch it, some not, but hey, things happen!

No worries Katelyn, you painted a picture with words. My family, too, is hunkered down for the winter, going about our ordinary day to day business. So many in the world yearn for that, we are very grateful. I look forward to the day that more chimps can join in ordinary days.

I love the pictures conjured up by this post! Well done Katelyn, no photos needed, but thank you for the fort. I would love to see a Burrito laughing video and hear his voice.

An old one just came up in my YT feed yesterday of Burrito laughing with, of all people, Annie!

It sounds like a wild and crazy day. I guess humans and chimps can have
those days off and on. Fun read – the thought of how happy those chimps
must be in their new and forever home now makes one smile.

Thank you for taking the time to write. Your words easily took me through the fast paced day so no worries on lack of pics. It’s nice you all take the time to keep us updated!
I loved hearing about Jodie and her shameless flirting with WillyB and am seriously starting to wonder if Burrito is purposeful in his pot stirring, hoping for a reason to get isolated and babied by staff. Haha.Doubt it but anything is possible.

Such a spirited message from the wonderful caretaker desk at our Chimpanzee Sanctuary! As others have mentioned, I also am sorry big boy Burrito hurt his foot again. But that may have started a new chapter in his life. Pretend to hurt your foot REALLY BAD and you get to be with some of your favorite humans.
