Boss’ Bundle of Blankets

January 23, 2020 by Chad de Bree

Jamie was playing a pretty intense game of chase with caregiver Kelsi earlier today. This game spanned all the way from the Greenhouse to the opposite end of the Playroom for quite some time. A little while later, I went around to find all the chimpanzees and found almost all inside the heated building. I was just missing one: Jamie. I went out to the Greenhouse with volunteer Krissy. It was on the top platform in the Greenhouse, both Krissy and I found this perfect bundle of blankets.

Very rarely is any human able to make any movement around the sanctuary without Jamie knowing about it. Kelsi must have really tired her out because she seemed a tiny bit surprised both Krissy and I in the human area of the Greenhouse. She acknowledged us for a second before resting here eyes again.

A few minutes later, I went back in to check on her, and she was up and ready to return to her sanctuary duty of monitoring the humans.

As I am writing this, I hear things dropping from the loft area of the Playroom and a lot of stomping. Please excuse the abrupt end to this post. The Boss is calling me.

The top photo had me laughing instantly! My eye went directly to that wee tuft of black hair barely visible at the top of the blanket mound. It is nice to know that the boss of the sanctuary gets her beauty rest.

Hmm?…Could it be that, given her duties as Boss of the place, that Jamie naturally assumes that she is the owner-operator-Le Grande Fromage of a refuge that she might regard as the Human Sanctuary Northwest? No sooner does the Boss close her beautiful eyelids for a well-earned afternoon siesta than those human primates on the property need her supervision and direction.

You must feel special, Chad! You seem to get a lot of “Jamie smiles” when you’re taking pics.

Looking at “Miss Nosy” being so carefree & relaxed, (with seemingly no worries whatsoever) all cosy, & toasty warm under that owl patterned warming blanket, is such a smile worthy moment…These photos really make my heart thump with such affection & love…

Another heartfelt “thank you” for so generously sharing the day-to-day lives of these magnificent & fascinating creatures…Hopefully, your touching daily blogs will spark more conversation about the moral obligation we have to treat ALL animals with respect, kindness & dignity…
