Willy B has been doing a little Cyber Monday shopping on this cold, wintry day and he has a request! He LOVES watching TV and is glued to our iPhones every chance he gets. But his very own television would allow him to watch documentaries and movies he takes an interest in to his heart’s content. So if anyone is interested in helping Willy B complete his Cyber Monday shopping, he chose this TV and put it on our Amazon Wishlist!Β Willy B would also greatly appreciate Safeway gift cards from our Wishlist! I mean, you have to have plenty of healthy snacks while you’re watching TV, right? π
As always, from our hearts, thank you for everything you do to support each one of these amazing ten chimpanzee people in a myriad of ways. We truly appreciate you just being here and sharing in their lives. You make a difference for them every day.
**UPDATE: You all never cease to amaze us! As we always say, we have the best supporters. Willy B’s (and friends) TV has been purchased! Thank you so much!!

didnt Willy B attack Burrito ?
Linda C says
By the time they got to him, everyone there except Neggie was mixing it up.

He can still have a TV though.

Hi Catherine, We can’t say with certainty, but we believe this particular conflict began between Honey B and Burrito and escalated to everyone being involved (except Negra, as Linda noted). This particular event was a very serious conflict, but fighting is a natural part of chimpanzee society, especially during introductions. That doesn’t make it any easier for us to fully comprehend, or certainly to witness. Of the six ladies Burrito’s lived with for all these many years before Willy B, Honey B and Mave arrived, there isn’t one he hasn’t gotten into multiple rows with (and the same for all of them). Burrito and Foxie have a very close relationship and he bit her ear off in a recent fight. They also resolved things and were grooming one another within ten minutes which is also common for chimps. It boggles the mind.
And though fighting is a natural part of chimpanzee society in both the wild and captivity, there are certainly times when I think someone pulls a jerk move. But it helps me to remember that captive chimpanzees face so many unique challenges their wild relatives do not, particularly in their ability to navigate interactions with the other chimps they find themselves living with (through no choice of their own). The chimps were all, each one, born into very unnatural (and typically traumatic) lives, stolen from their mothers at birth and not given the opportunity to learn valuable socialization and communication skills they would have had they been given the opportunity to live their natural lives with their chimp families. They are unique individuals doing the best they can in very unnatural circumstances they had no choice in. And while it’s beyond heartbreaking at times, they amaze and inspire me every single day with their resiliency and heart and their ability to build the relationships they do. Thank you for caring about them.

Blog readers move fast!
Glad he’ll get his TV (I’ve marveled before that they didn’t already have one), but didn’t anyone ever tell him that sitting that close will ruin his eyesight!? ;P
Katelyn says
It’s true, Linda! We’re so thankful. π We actually had an older one years ago, but it’s life came to an end.
Katelyn says
They did, Regina, thanks for asking! π

Your blog readers are amazing are they not? It was mere seconds, it seems, before the tv was bought and on the way to Willy B. I think it would be brilliant if he could change the channels himself. Perhaps a big button somewhere that he could poke with a tool?
