Meet Chad!

December 18, 2019 by Chad de Bree

Hi, everybody! My name is Chad and I wanted to very briefly introduce myself today. I promise I will follow up with a more thorough post in the upcoming days (I’m considering this my first practice blog post and not my first official post until I take some photos of my own).

I am currently training to be a staff member here at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest and will be taking over the reins for Anna, our amazing Chimp House Manager, as she prepares to take maternity leave soon! We should all congratulate Anna for this amazing news!

We should also take this time to congratulate Burrito for being so incredibly strong and patient through his entire recovery process. I know the other caregivers here say it almost everyday, but I can’t help myself in saying it as well. Everyday Burrito continues to recover and act more and more like his old playful, goofy self. So much so today that we decided to give him access to the Greenhouse earlier this afternoon.

As you can see, he was incredible happy to be able to go to an old familiar place, even being sure to bring his sweet potato and pomegranate from lunch with him:

Bonus photo of Jamie grabbing a quick drink from her toy watering can:

    Welcome, Chad!
Anna, that’s fabulous news! Congratulations! I hope you enjoy every single minute with the baby-boy or girl? Do you know?! And then I hope you’ll come back to us, because the chimps–and the readers–would miss you! (even though I’m pretty certain that you and a certain 3-week-old will probably make a couple of egg deliveries soon!)
Wow, the happiest Christmas ever-your present’s on the way! πŸ˜€

Congratulations to Anna, to Chad, and to Burrito for his recovery back into Burritoism. He looks better in the greenhouse.

Seems like he’s still walking funny on the right hand, though…on the back of it instead of palm down….but then again, maybe he’s always done that and I hadn’t noticed

Delighted to know you are training to be a staff member Chad, looking forward to your first ‘official’ post and many more to follow.

Sending a big “CONGRATULATIONS!” to Anna. Savor every minute of your maternity leave. We will miss you and I know your friends at the sanctuary will miss you most. What will they do without you?! Hope you return to us all when the time is right. So very happy for you.

Way to go Burrito! All I want for Christmas is to see you with a wooden toy in your mouth as you play tug and/or tickle-chase. Nothing could please me more. I am amazed and inspired by your fortitude. (Girls, get ready, he’s baaaack!)

Thanks Chad for the bonus photo of Jamie, because we all need to see Jamie being Jamie. I assume she just filled her watering can from the spigot? She is too much….

I had a little heart-stopping moment when I saw “Meet Chad” next to a chimp photo, and for a second wondered “Where did this new chimp named Chad come from!” But seriously, thank you for your post, congratulations on your job, and I admit a bit of envy that you get to do something so different and challenging every day. I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Betsy, lol, if I hadn’t remembered the name from a recent post by Anthony, I would have thought the same thing! πŸ˜€

Welcome, Chad! I’ll look forward to your new care-giver’s perspective posts!

Anna, how wonderful! Congratulations, and wishing you a painless delivery in the near future! I’m sure you’ll miss the Chimps, and they, you; but you’ll soon have a little ‘monkey’ of your own to keep you very occupied. Best wishes to you and your family. πŸ™‚

Brother Burrito is lookin’ good! Hooray for getting a romp in the greenhouse! It won’t be long now until he’s back to full-throttle Bubbaness. πŸ˜€

Good to meet another chimp lover, Chad. Just curious – do any of the chimps notice a baby bump or treat a pregnant lady differently? How do they respond to babies and toddlers?

    • Anna says

      December 23, 2019 at 10:09 am

      Hi Laura!
I’m sure they notice the bump but for the most part they don’t seem too concerned about it. A couple weeks ago I let Jamie gently groom my belly with a long plastic tube.
If I recall correctly from past stories, Foxie likes little ones πŸ™‚
