It is winnnndy! The chimps had a very leisure day playing, napping, and watching J.B. and a few volunteers start building a new structure out on Young’s Hill! They are just getting a section of the project done today and than another group of volunteers will come tomorrow to help us build the rest of the structure. Normally I would expect the chimps, especially Jamie, to be out in the chute inspecting everything that was going on. However, it was so windy no one wanted to be outside really. Jamie did watch from the windows and the comfort of her own nest.

Coziness! When the winds calm down and time permits, would you please film another birdseye view of the sanctuary? And post some new structure photos. What exactly is the “Y” ?? Where does the chute lead to, etc.
I can’t seem to find anything in your wonderful blog. Thank you for all you do. You’re wonderful humans!

Hi, im not staff, but I see Anna replied yesterday…sometimes, new posts and responses don’t show up when I open a blog page, especially if I’m on my phone. You have to refresh, even though you have just opened the page. I’ve been guilty of double posting in the past because I didn’t realize that.
Door Y is the door that they’ve always used to get to the hill from the greenhouse- it’s just that this time, if I understood it correctly, they’re on the outside of that door looking in. If you look up on YouTube the video where they’re served lunch, you realize the place is kind of built into the hill, so staff leaving a side door and going slightly uphill reach the greenhouse’s mid level.
On the other side is the new wing (phase 1), with the chute, which connects to the hill, as well. If I were on my laptop, I could post a link to the video they did on the expansion.

So heartwarming to see them playing together! I was wondering if you ever play music for them, as a background sound. Seems like it might be nice enrichment them…

I have thought the same thing in the past, but apparently most of them don’t care about music one way or the other. There are a couple of videos of Negra rocking out to the music they play while they’re cleaning, and Jamie and foxy watching line dancing for a “don’t mess with Texas party”, as well as Foxie watching “trolls”

I just love to watch them play! And I love how Annie was trying to get into it.?

It’s almost as though “Interrupting Annie ” is jealous when Jo and Missy play…..I do so love those long hands!

Oh those silly girls playing with each other, love it. Thanks for all the photos, especially the photo of the back of Jamie’s head. Precious.
I am so excited to see the finished new structure! J.B. is the guru of structure creation. Sending a gigantic “Thank You!” to J.B.’s incredible volunteers for working hard on a windy-rainy day to help the chimps.

Do the Chimps have their own set place to sleep, or do they sleep wherever they plop down?
Francoise says
Somehow I don’t think you could tell a chimp where his or her bed must be. ? And some like building nests. And the floor is heated!!! I know where I’d be!?
Linda says
Wherever, though they have their favorite napping spots. Jamie like to nap at the foot of the stairs in the playroom, most others like to be up high (instinct, I think) and they say Burrito prefers to sleep with his back to the wall (sniff!)

From this video I can discern various flesh wounds which were incurred in last week’s melee. I trust that the chimpanzees (poor Burrito excepted) have been able to recuperate this week. I empathize with Annie: seeing Missy and Jody having such a good time playing makes me wish that I could join in with them.

Photos prove that this week, Dr Missy has been over ALL superficial wounds! 🙂
