Everyday is different. However, today is finally a quiet day. I know, I just jinxed it! There was less screaming, a lot of playing between Missy and Honey B (!!!), good grooming sessions, and most of the interactions were positive! It was going so well that we tried to tip toe around the chimp house to not disturb the calm! There is usually a little drama pre dinner, but overall a very quiet day. Everyday will vary and who knows what tomorrow will hold!
Negra looks so cozy:

Honey B was guarding the playroom door. We have been trying to get in there to clean for a day or so now! However, Honey B has other plans.
Over in phase 1 Jamie would lay down on door I which separate the mezzanine from the front rooms and watch the volunteers and staff clean the front rooms. As you can see Jamie even has a water cup next to her. But the best part of Jamie observing everyone from the top, what you can’t seen, is the troll scarf she tied around her waist!

Days like today are refreshing. It means the group is getting more and more comfortable with each other. Which also leads us to start thinking about doing more introductions!

Great news hearing the new group of six is beginning to settle in and find their way with each other.
Question : Is Negra still in an area all by herself and if so, how is she dealing with this? OR, was she introduced into the six? SO much has been going on I’m confused when it comes to Neggie.
Thanks for todays scoop and all the wonderful photos. Wish you could have caught a shot of Jamie in her troll scarf! Oh Jamie…..
Linda says
I think she’s still in the “spa”(the front rooms), Kathleen.
She still looks happy, though! I love to see a Neggie smile/play face!
But if we leave her there too long, her muscles are gonna atrophy further! 🙂
Kelsi, for one quick second, I read that caption as “Mave with a beer” !
Can’t wait for Honey B to show Burrito how that scooter works! Do you have another, or will there be fights over a scooter?
Has ANYone been out on the hill in these last two weeks?
Kathleen says
Hi Linda, Diana posted a reply comment comment yesterday say : “No one is regularly going out on the hill. We have been trying to introduce the new three to the hill.”
Kelsi says
Hi Linda! Yes Negra was still at the “spa”, but you know now she is with the big group :). Mave probably does deserve a beer, but a beet or two will do! We are actually getting more scooters so maybe Honey B can show him a thing or two! Kathleen is correct no one is regularly out on the Hill. We are trying to get the 3 to get comfortable out on the Hill, but we are taking a pause now that Jamie and Negra have been introduced.
Kelsi says
Hi Kathleen! Yes, Negra was in a few of the front rooms alone. She didn’t want to travel around the hill to get to phase 1 with Jamie, Burrito, and Foxie. So we gave her a few of the front rooms. She handled it very well. It seemed like a small vacation for her! though now you know she is in with the big group!

Great news – and as you said.. each day will be different but simply the fact that it is calmer already is such a good sign. I had the same question about Neggie that Kathleen asked… I can’t figure out if I miss something and she is integrated into the new group or is she alone still and if so how is she doing with that? Jamie with a troll scarf around her waist is an image to dance in our heads!!! 🙂
Bill says
Has everyone been introduced? Sounds like Jamie, foxie & Burrito still haven’t met the new 3. Why is that?
Kelsi says
Hi Bill! Not everyone has been introduced yet. We started with Mave, Willy B, Honey B, Annie, Missy, and Jody to start introductions. Once they seemed to be on their feet, as of yesterday, we introduced Jamie and Negra. Next after a few days of getting to know each other we will add Burrito and Foxie. We want the group to build relationships and be a bit established so that the 7 and 3 can support each other vs fighting against each other! And a more stable environment will hopefully lead to a smoother transition for Burrito! So far it seems to be working well.

That Neggie..She literally makes me smile from the inside out…I surely do love this girl, & every time I see where she’s wrapped herself up in a clean soft blanket for a little R&R…a few tears always drip down my face…
These overwhelmingly dear & much beloved chimpanzees deserve every single comfort they receive…I can hardly wait to find out whether you might be thinking about rescuing a few more after these ten become “family” to one another…

What a beautiful photograph of Negra. When she looks happy, all’s right with the world…
Linda says
Nicely put!

I could not agree more!

Anxiety and Stress can certainly be exhausting and I feel for all of you caretakers who have been dealing with this introduction of the new 3 to the old 7 during the past months. You have done an incredible job deciding who gets to go first. Marvelous Mother Mauve is a real gem and a wonderful peacemaker and Willie B seems to be enjoying his harem

I love how cute they all are and how they show just what they like to have, to hold and to do. Their
personalities are so fun to figure out.
