What to do on a Rainy Day?

September 17, 2019 by Kelsi

Well, I guess Fall is coming whether we like it or not. Today was a pleasant rainy day here at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (that was a very Washington thing to say). It was the perfect day to nestle into a nice nest, eat some onions, and inspect the new neighbors. Or for the chimps at least. I for one love spending my Fall rainy day under a big heated blanket watching Harry Potter or something to that effect, I am sure Negra could relate!

Even Jamie at some point in the day had succumbed to the rainy day. We found her in the Green House under a batman sheet:

Negra in the Green House this morning:

Later, Neggie and I did a photo shoot in the portrait studio:

Mave got cozy with a big stuffed dog:

Willy B:

If you are worried that the chimps slept all day, do not fret! They spent the majority of the afternoon inspecting the neighbors and observing J.B. and Anthony working outside, lots of commotion was going on!

If you look closely you can see Honey B is wearing a headband around her thigh:

Honey B also decided to try on a glove today:

What a handsome and happy group of chimpanzee friends you present to us today! Love the portraits of Neggie, showing herself as the Queen she is. Our newest friends look like they’re very happy. Beautiful smiles

Loving the glove! I really admire you, and all that you do for these chimps. They’ve had a hard life, but they must be so happy to live at CSNW. I enjoy keeping up with you guys more than other chimp sanctuarys because the environment is so bright and homely, with lots of things to play with, and I look forward to to your regular updates. Thank you.

Ahem. To continue where my phone decided I finished…
Beautiful smiles from all 3 of our new family. Big and bright from Mave, quiet from Willie B. (I think that smile foreshadows fun yet to
come), and maybe devilish from Honey B. What a pleasure they all are!

I hope that you will share these beautiful photographs with their subjects. Is that an upside-down play face being exhibited by Mave?

The three arrived on August 18. Tomorrow is September 18. I hope that the three will get the “all-clear”
to emerge from their quarantine. After all, Honey B looks like she needs to supervise the human primates
on her premises (and a handsome gent pictured above looks like he is all dressed up to pay a call on Jody).

Oh, seems like Mr. Willy B has a smile on his face about 80 percent of the time! He always looks chipper and pleasant. Hope it turns out to be so!
And Honey B likes gloves….her mom likes socks…….together, they’ll make a perfect pair!

Where I am today I too had a rainy day, and like the chimps I made the most of if. Still, this post made my day. Every single photo made me smile, especially dear Negra in the photo booth. Isn’t she simply marvelous?! Sweet Mave and her big overstuffed companion melted my heart too. Add in Honey B re-accessorizing that magenta head-waistband and handsome Willy B being oh so charming and I find myself feeling wonderfully small and insignificant in the scope of it all.

I believe the world could learn a great from the Seven + Three!

PS : Is Negra’s eye okay? I see a scrape on her eyebrow and wonder if she gave as good as she got.

Oh, you’re right, Kathleen! Hmmm….Missy with swollen eye, Neggie with cut eye….wha’ happened!? I, too, hope Neggie gave someone what for…

Hi Kathleen, Negra is totally fine! Don’t worry, Negra always gives it back better 🙂 It could be from over-grooming by her or someone else or a small scuffle!
