Jamie Project Day!

September 18, 2019 by Kelsi

Everyday we have a different theme for enrichment. For example, yesterday was cover the floor day where we literally covered the floor with items such as blankets, toys, and forage! Today just so happened to be Jamie project day! There are so many different projects Jamie enjoys, most have to do with construction, power tools, the gator, and so on. So we settled on a few things, some reading material, a new tool set, and a new puzzle too! Our kind donors donated new toys off our Amazon wish-list!

Jamie seemed quite pleased with these new tools, but Jamie really had her eye on the tomato garden!

Jamie brachiated her way over:

And than sauntered by to tell me know it was time for tomatoes:

Meanwhile Annie, Jody, and Burrito groomed each other and stared off toward the chute:

Yesterday the chimps also got wood wool, which they made beautiful nests with. Each nest was different, some intertwined, some on top, and some not used at all (also very messy):

Jody enjoyed some morning sun:

Mave and Willy B spent a little bit of their day grooming each:

    What sweet pictures.
I think that last one of Mave giving Willy B a kiss might be a Calendar shot !

I second that! How lucky that they have each other in this new space, with so many changes!

I love Jamie project day. Appears everyone found special enjoyment! The nest made out of wood wool is lovely (I have never heard that term before). Thanks Kelsi.

The apes at Twycross Zoo in England get wood wool for nesting, and it looks so much nicer and comfier than straw.

Isn’t that also where they have the “diva chimp”, who won’t go outside without a blanket over her head?

Well, it sure looks like a friendly little smooch to me, & Willy B (with all that tousled hair of his looks quite content as it should be…Who knows…Maybe one day he’ll develop a fondness for wearing headbands…& on his head, BTW…HaHa. A very lovely post as usual, & I thank you all…

We get an education on this site as well as updates on the activities of the Chimps. I’ve never heard of wood wool either. It looks softer than straw but how do they get it (shavings?) The Kiss is adorable. I wonder if “kiss” means the same thing in their vocabulary as it does in humans?

Hi Elaine..I remember meeting someone in Peri who had rescued about 6 primates (monkeys all) from circuses, poor living situations, etc. She was explaining how Capuchins pass saliva as a sign of affection. I remember thinking, “well, we do the same thing, we’re just a little neater and more exclusive about it!” 🙂

One month has passed, and I see that the newcomers remain in quarantine. I defer to the expertise of the experts on this matter. Still, I look forward to the day when Honey B, Mave and Willy can venture onto Young’s Hill in the beauty of autumn.

Another fun day for the chimps. Each blog puts a smile on my face knowing how happy
these chimps must be. Hopefully, some day, more can be rescued and brought to CSN.
The kiss, at the end, says it all. Thank you all for what you do.
