What’s in a wadge?

July 10, 2018 by Anna

The chimpanzees all enjoy wadging fibrous materials in their bottom lips. When something is too tough or dry to eat, but has some flavor left in it, they make a chewed up ball by adding water and sucking out the juices through their teeth. It’s got to be pretty relaxing to finish a meal and kick back with a nice wadge.

Here are just a few popular wadging materials:
Bamboo (Annie):

Alfalfa cubes (Burrito):

Primate chow (Foxie):

Corn cob (Negra):

Pine needles (Jody):

Pineapple peel (Jamie):

Chow bag paper (Missy):

While one of us human primates might sprain our neck doing so, it is well worth the effort to look upside down at the last two photographs of Jamie. Unless I am mistaken, the Boss is exuding a most self-satisfied smile in wake of her session of the new trainee

The paper bag wadge had me laughing out loud too! They are all so precious in their individual ways.

I love all the blogs, pics and videos and look forward to them every single day, where I share them with the group Global Primate Lovers whose members just adore hearing about what the guys have been up to. So thank you so much for what you all do. ? x

What’s in a wadge? An afternoon snack, presumably. The photo of Burrito the Gourmand brings to mind the Beatles’ tune which I associate with him, “Savoy Truffle.” Appropriately enough, it’s about food.
    Buon Appetito, Mr. B!
