Guy Time

August 22, 2017 by Elizabeth

Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest tends to be female-heavy (as do most animal care professions). Of the seven chimpanzees who live here, only one is male. Of our six-person staff, only one is male. Out of our 36 current chimp house volunteers, seven are male. Out of the 10 volunteers who are trained to play and interact with the chimpanzees, two are male.

Burrito is a friendly and inclusive guy, and when it comes to human play partners, he does not discriminate. That said, he does seem to feel a little outnumbered from time to time. It’s a special treat when one of his guy friends is up for some man time.

Burrito likes to stick a toy in his mouth when he’s feeling playful. In this video, he’s biting on a wooden “screw” from a toy tool set.

So cool and funny and adorable!! Loved this!! Thank you so much! Burrito looked so smug when he put the tube in his mouth and held on!! What a guy!! Both of them are adorable!! Hugs to you all…

I love the way Burrito looks over his shoulder at you as you tug — Game on! And the second time you tease him by sticking the tube into the caging, I could feel the tension of anticipation! Burrito is a gas!

Do you ever wake up and say “Wow, one of my very best friends is a chimpanzee named Burrito!”? It’s a wonderful life!

Love this! I’m surprised none of the other chimps came round to join in the fun! Perhaps they understood that this was just “Guy Time” 🙂
