This day of sanctuary was sponsored by the chimps’ long-time friend, Lisa Stuverud, in memory of her sister-in-law, Linda Vizzare. Lisa and her husband, Rich, have been a big part of creating a life of sanctuary for the chimps and helping them celebrate each day. Lisa shared this beautiful message about Linda:
“Today, I’m honoring my late sister-in-law Linda who I miss very much (she loved Burrito)…this was always our day to celebrate…and I’m choosing to share it with the sanctuary because everyday since becoming aware of the Cle Elum 7 and everyone involved with CSNW…I have witnessed the ability to overcome and rise above, to appreciate every warm sunbeam and ripe tomato, to have a selfless passion to help others and I feel that I am a better person and my dear sister-in-law would be very proud.”
Lisa, thank you for including the chimps in your family and for doing something so beautiful as to ease your heart by sharing your love with them and adding to their lives. We hope all the joy that comes to them today brings you peace, comfort and joy as you remember Linda and celebrate all she meant to you. Our thoughts are with you and your family today.
For Linda,

Lisa’s message for donating today is deeply touching. It gives me hope knowing the world holds people like Lisa and Linda…… and Burrito, Missy, Annie, Jamie, Jody, Foxie and Negra too.

Lisa, your message is important for me. Since I became aware of CSNW — and oddly I don’t remember how exactly — my perspective on life has changed. I was aware of the labs but never understood their true cruel nature. And what has been surprising for me is how from the chimps, CSNW (and that the publisher I work for produces important books that honor the animal kingdom and the environment), I have found my way to trying to help orangutans, elephants, and giraffes; that I have become vegetarian-aiming-for-vegan (not easy) and that I have become, not militant, but more sure and confident in the value of kindness and generosity, and willing to open others’ eyes to what (like I) are not seeing. So I thank the chimps and CSNW and I am pleased to hear it said that others have also experienced personal growth.
Which brings me to: how have others felt? What have the chimps done for you and your life?
