Curling up with a good book

April 7, 2017 by J.B.

Humans aren’t the only ones that like to curl up with a good book on a rainy morning.

The chimps spent the early part of the day on Young’s Hill, but before long the rain had them retreating back inside to the cozy greenhouse and playroom. Jamie returned to find a new book, one of many sent in recently by a generous supporter, and she immediately gathered all of her favorite things so that she could flip through her book from the comfort of a good nest.

The only problem – the nest was too comfortable.

Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier until she couldn’t fight it anymore, and she drifted off to sleep.

Her new book would have to wait.

Love the cowgirl boot pillow (or is it a head rest for reading?!). Very sweet photos, thanks. The rainy weather where I live has me feeling the same way. ZZZzzzzz……..

    Hello, Jeeb,
She has her head in a book almost as much as I do. ????
I’m wondering something. I know she likes to colour, and she will flip through human magazines, but have you ever given her a sticker book? I’m wondering if she knows the object is to fill the book with shapes matching the outlines. Also, does she use the human line art colouring books and can she stay in the lines?

I would love to send her her first sticker book if you haven’t tried one, along with one of my adult colouring books. They’ve never been used and are still new. I know you have regulations on things they can have, but I’m getting the feeling books are a bit different.

    Thanks, and cheers.

      Hi Carla,

Coloring books are great – anything made from paper or cardboard without staples should meet our guidelines. I can’t say that she stays within the lines when she’s doodling…she seems to enjoy the act of scribbling more than anything. But you get the general sense that she is choosing where to do her scribbling.

Most stickers don’t meet our guidelines, unfortunately. They tend to have too much of a plastic or laminate element. We are overly cautious, for sure, but better to be safe than sorry.

      Thanks!

I would have to say, the best “book reading” video ever has to be the one where Jamie, engrossed in an Animal Picture book, reacts appropriately to the finding of a Snake!! She alert all and tried to rid the snake! Wonderful video that should be repeated here in “book week”! ????!

Sleeping with a book. The best! Except perhaps reading the book…..
