The patient

January 23, 2017 by Katelyn

When I arrived to the chimp house this morning I went in the chimp area to greet everyone and found our patient, Queen Negra, fast asleep:

Another pass through and I found her enjoying a magazine from the comfort of her nest as she tried to wake up:

…and tried to wake-up:

But it was too early by the Queen’s standards so she swaddled herself up like a Neggie burrito and headed back to sleep until breakfast:

Negra is doing well and in great spirits! She is continuing to heal more and more each day and it seems the doctor’s orders to take it easy and rest are right up her alley.

That;’s such a sweet story. Melts my heart to see her cuddled up in her blankets. <3

Animals know what’s best for them! So glad she’s continuing to heal ~ it takes a bit out of you when you have a few years under your belt ~ same for humans!! Hugs to you all!

Negra looks so cute peeking out from under her blanket in the second photo and in photo #4 she does look sleepy headed. But it’s the last two photos that really made my day. Pleased to know that all her resting is paying off and that she is feeling better with the passing of time. It is true, the older you are the longer it takes to bounce back. But hey, what’s the hurry!? Tell Negra I love her and I’m thinking of her.

I’m curious about the magazines…. what type do you give them? National geographic? Do they have a favourite? Do they react to certain things they see?

Hi Heather, They get all kinds of magazines – mostly whatever is donated. Jamie enjoys them the most and has some boot and animals magazines that arrive addressed to her. 🙂 She does actually look at the boots – I’ve even observed her flipping back and forth and looking at the page and then her feet. The most I’ve seen her react was while looking through a large children’s animal book she received for Christmas and she came across a photo of a snake. It was amazing! If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s definitely not to be missed!: https://chimpsnw.org/2015/12/a-christmas-miracle/

I am so glad you answered Katelyn’s question about what kind of books/magazines do they enjoy. I’ve wondered that for a long time, never thought to ask They amaze me. That video you had a few days ago about them using tools was amazing.

I am glad you answered Heather’s question. I asked one very similar to it the other day on the video with Jamie looking at the magazines. But my post was overly-long and don’t know if anyone saw it. Er, srry about that. I get overly-excited. 😀

Y’know, re-watching that video you posted with Jeeb’s comments made me realise something: you guys might be able to give the chimps the attention and love THEY DESERVE because you ARE such a small sanctuary. Would Save the Chimps srsly be able to throw such intimate parties and catch such intimate details, like Jamie discovering the snake? Not so far as I’ve seen from their videos, but that’s not to put them down, either. They make equal sacrifices so chimps don’t have to die or live in empty research labs. Everyone who does that, and is able to do that deserves heartfelt thanks from those of us who only wish we could do it.

Now if we could only get Jane Goodall’s butt out to visit you guys, it would srsly be complete.

Um, has she ever responded to your invite to visit, and has she given a reason why she hasn’t/won’t come?

    Y’all are…just…COOL! <3
