The Cle Elum Seven may not head to the pubs on St. Patrick’s Day, but they still know how to have a good time. We had a breakfast party in the greenhouse this morning with fruit smoothie in plastic shot glasses with lime garnishes, peanuts, and chow. The main event, though, was undoubtedly the whole green apples. The chimpanzees find whole fruit infinitely more exciting than the same amount of fruit cut into pieces. We put this morning’s apples inside socks and hung them around the greenhouse. The chimps were beside themselves. Here are a few highlights from the celebration.
Jamie went after the “apple socks” with a laser focus. She had some trouble carrying all her treasures, so she made good use of her opposable toes.

Annie thought there must be food inside this big green plastic egg that volunteer Alex brought:
Alas, there wasn’t.
But she consoled herself with some smoothie.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
They’re all too stinkin’ cute!
Oh it looks like they had such a good time – thank you for taking such good care of them. I love Jamie holding the socks!!!
The two pictures of Annie are wonderful. She looks so human in her response to the empty container. Love her.
Wonderful pictures!!
Such sweet photos!
So wonderful to see them enjoying everyday to the fullest. Everyone at the sanctuary amaze me with the wonderful things they think up to make their lives so full and happy.
You caretakers are amazing. How creative. How do you ever come up with all of these wonderful ideas. I bet you are all plotting for an Easter egg HUNT right now. The socks in the toes is priceless. I make up booklets using your photos to put in my 3-ring binder. Is there some way I can get just one picture without printing up 13 pages. I wanted the picture of Burrito with the slinky on his foot like a boot and now I want this pic of the socks in the toes, but I’m using up so much paper and especially ink. Can someone instruct me how I can select a specific picture without page after page from the whole e-mail printing out.
Hi Elaine! Just wanted to help you out on printing the photos you want to keep.
1. “Double Click” on the photo you love. It will re-open on a new page in your browser.
2. If it doesn’t open up all by itself on the new page (and instead appears with a few other blog photos) “Double Click” on your photo again.
3. You will then see only the photo you want. Print it out and you’re all set!
Hope this helps. Enjoy!!
These 7 chimpanzees are the luckiest people I know! St. Paddy must be smiling down on them!! Negra savoring her green apple is priceless (I just LOVE her so). And Jamie with her “sock apples” is hysterical!! Happy, Happy to all of you!!
