A New Friend for Burrito

July 14, 2015 by Elizabeth

This morning, new staff caregiver Anna showed up at the chimp house with a giant stuffed gorilla for the chimpanzees. Stuffed animals have a sad history at the sanctuary; the chimps tend to either ignore them or tear them limb from limb. Stuffed animals that resemble apes or monkeys, in particular, don’t often live long after the chimps get their hands on them.

So we were surprised and delighted by what transpired this morning…

I believe the stuffed gorilla is male and Burrito figured that our immediately (thus placing Mr. Gorilla on his head to check him out to be sure)! Clearly Burrito is thrilled to have a man around at long last but I can see he is slightly miffed as to why this new friend is passed out and will not wake up!

I hope his stuffed pal lasts for a while. So cute seeing happy Mr. B enjoying him. And so funny that they are the same size.

Awesome! The stuffed gorilla is bigger than Mr. B! So cute, so nice to see him with a “silent” friend. I hope this friendship lasts. My experience with Foxie murdering the stuffed chimp I gave to her made me respect her. She was protecting her troll doll from a chimp from another community, the stuffed chimp community at Costcos! Go Burrito. Maybe he will take his new friend on the hill! That would be amazing.

You could name him Taco. 😀 I’m glad he has a new friend anyway.

OMG that was adorable ! Burrito now has a new “sister” to play with and who will do whatever he wants. No screaming, no biting, no running away ! It’s the perfect playmate !! Hopefully it will last.

    Buritto
That gorilla doesn’t have much of a personality. I don’t know if this will work out. It is fun to see you enjoying your new friend. I just wish he would communicate a little more. Have fun.
