Today’s day of sanctuary was sponsored by Don and Karen Young for their granddaughter, Heiwon Young, who turns 7 years old today! Don and Karen generously helped to make the chimpanzees’ 2-acre outdoor habitat, Young’s Hill, possible and we are grateful for their compassion and support of the chimps every single day. They shared the following sweet message about today:

We have played music for the chimpanzees upon occasion which is met with varying interest. Some of the chimps seem to enjoy looking at music videos occasionally (especially Foxie), but they seem to lose interest after awhile. Music alone doesn’t seem to captivate them in quite the same manner, but it’s always nice to see what might interest them and try different things.
Love it, it almost looked like she was break dancing!

Personally I can’t stop laughing. You need to get Mark Ronson to produce a music/dance video of Foxie and her moves!! And I too want to know if Foxie still enjoys the “Lord of dance” video and did Negra ever watched it and get into the groove?
Kathleen, Foxie definitely has moves! She hasn’t seen the video in awhile, but as I recall she was really enjoying watching a Lady Gaga video not long ago. I haven’t seen her “dancing” again though, she will usually just nod her head and look rather mesmerized (before spitting at it 😉 ). Negra has not seemed so interested in watching videos of humans dancing as much as she is in watching humans dance in person for her! She LOVES that. And of course, we comply. 😉
Always such fun learning new things about the chimps. I didn’t know Negra enjoyed watching the caregivers dance — this must be fun, to dance for Negra! Does she spit water if not impressed?! I think I see the makings of a new reality show! : )
