Negra Light and Bonus Play Video!

September 27, 2014 by Diana

*Note – due to feedback on Facebook this post is basically a two-for-one. Photos AND video of Negra on the hill AND a bonus treat -a video of Jamie and Foxie playing. Just a fraction of the great things that happened at the sanctuary today.

Please let me know which was your favorite part of this post in the comments below and on our Facebook page, and share your favorite photo and video on your own Facebook, Twitter, Ello (are you on that?), etc. page or email a link to the blog to your friends. Spread the chimps’ joy!

We’ve had rain for the last few days, which was a nice change. Today, however, was back to sun, but with a definite autumn feel. There’s that bit of crispness in the air and the ambient light seems to have suddenly changed overnight with the sun lower instead of directly overhead. I might just start referring to this light as “Negra light” because it made for some beautiful photos of the Queen this morning.

The change back to sunshine prompted us to set up a breakfast forage on the hill. Negra doesn’t always join foraging on the 2-acres, but I made sure to make a pathway of lettuce to encourage her to come out. To our surprise, Negra not only ventured onto Young’s Hill, but spent quite a bit of time foraging, and was the last one back in. Not only that, but she demanded that Debbie serve her two cups of smoothie, which she often is not interested in – perhaps the workout of foraging on the hill made her a bit more hungry.

In any case, please enjoy the (many) “Negra light” photos and the video below, don’t forget to watch the Foxie and Jamie wrestling video at the end of the post and let me know what your favorite part of today’s post was (one of the videos, a particular photo, the eclectic content…?).

Thanks for reading and learning more about the family at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest! Your support and donations make all the difference!

Hi guys, what happened to Neg’s ear.

We suspect she lost part of her ear in a fight. It happened before she came to the sanctuary.

It was all fabulous! Thank you for posting it all. Wonderful to see Negra outside – she seems so deep in thought – looking out to the lovely view of trees and sky. And Foxie & Jamie – how can you not love seeing them enjoying life. I love to hear them laugh. Life is good!

The pictures of Negra make me want to go sit quietly beside her and look at what she is looking at. Just a fantasy. The play pictures
    Were a nice bonus.

Negra light indeed! Very nice pics, esp. little buddha. I liked the slomo breakdown of the clowning around, and the clowning around itself.

I can’t choose sides, I love both! But mostly I am so thrilled to hear that Negra ventured out today and spent lots of time foraging on Young’s Hill and was the last one back. Wow! That is just delightful to hear. The photos of Negra peacefully sitting and climbing on Young’s Hill are wonderful as is the video. I think your term “Negra Light” captures it all.

And who doesn’t delight in chimpanzee laughter and troll wrestling?! I will share with everyone I can think of! : )

The entire post was joyful and heart warming. My favorite part was just knowing where Negra came from and how reserved she has always been. Those still pictures, knowing her background, say a thousand words to me. Thank you to all who love and support these amazing creatures. Watching this healing process unfold has given me so much pleasure.

I was certain after watching the Negra video that it was going to be my favorite part of today’s post, but in the end I have to choose Foxie and Jamie playing. I laughed along with them when Jamie dragged Foxie across the floor, and I laughed again at Foxie’s slick grab and roll. Lovely way to end my day.

I love watching Foxie and Jamie wrestle. Foxie looks so small and is so flexible. I love get somersaults. And Jaime could crush her but is so gentle as she plays. What fun!

Such wonderful pictures of the Queen. And I love the capture the troll video. Does Foxie have a sore on her upper left hip? Just curious. 🙂

Sorry for the delay in responding, Jordan! Yes, Foxie did have a wound on her hip. We think she had an injury (probably from a fight) that may have formed an abscess. She was on antibiotics for a course, and it’s healing up quite well now.
