We’re getting closer to completing one of our most important projects to date: the creation of an onsite veterinary clinic. This project was made possible by generous contributions from Karen and Don Young, the National Anti-Vivisection Society, Project V.E.T.S., and the many Fund-a-Need donors at our 2011 and 2013 auctions. And now I’m happy to say that we have a few more people to add to this list.
Kathy Cochran, one of the best friends a chimp could have, connected us with Bud McIrvin and Dan Price of Providence Hospital in Everett, WA, and as a result we now have an incredible anesthesia machine to add to our clinic. Dan was even kind enough to drive out to Cle Elum this morning with his wife, Janet, to give me and Dr. Mensching a tutorial.

Thank you for this essential piece of equipment for the clinic. The clinic is really coming together, it is so good to see, and comforting to know, that if it is ever needed it is available.

Don and I are thrilled at this news. To think that someone would donate such an important and expensive machine for the chimps is truly remarkable. We are so happy that everything is coming together for this very important project. We hope to visit the sanctuary soon so we can see this amazing project in person, as well as you guys, but especially the chimps! Seeing them run free on the hill is still one of the greatest highs on earth! Soon they will have medical care on -site to attend to their medical needs, especially when they get into fights over—you guessed it—-food! Congratulations to you all for your quest to make the lives of these seven chimps the best of any chimps in capitivity. You have succeeded!!! We are sure you have much more in store for the 7! We can’t wait to hear about the next big project! Karen and Don

A question. Do the chimps have individual sleeping rooms? Or do they all sleep together in a common area?
J.B. says
Hi Diana – The chimps can choose where they want to sleep and they aren’t separated overnight. Most of the chimps prefer to sleep on the second story of the playroom, but they tend to spread out instead of making their nests together.
