Jamie’s projects

June 4, 2013 by Debbie

Jamie is always, always, always working on something. Even when she’s resting, I can just see the gears turning in her mind and she’s thinking about the next thing she plans on doing. Sometimes it’s hard to enrich Jamie because her mind is so active and she needs a lot to keep her engaged. Over the past five years we’ve had to come up with some pretty creative things to keep her busy. Sometimes, she finds projects of her own, which I think is the best kind of enrichment there is. This morning we put out breakfast smoothie as a forage in the playroom (because everyone was too busy foraging on Young’s Hill to come down and have it served to them) and I decided to put a couple of the cups just outside the caging. I just knew Jamie would go straight for it. Sometimes, it’s not about the actual end result, but about the project involved. I don’t know that she really cares that much about peanuts or raisins, but she really loves boomer balls, kongs, and raisin boards. So despite there being a bunch of smoothie cups easily attainable in the playroom this morning, Jamie chose to work on the ones outside the caging. I think it’s great that she likes these types of projects, but I’m not going to lie—it does make this job a little challenging!

Awhile ago we caught Jamie making her own project with some enrichment:
