As J.B. mentioned yesterday in his post, we often remind ourselves that the chimps are experiencing even the simplest aspects of life for the first time at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest.
It doesn’t make up for all the years she lost, but after almost five years at the sanctuary, Negra has experienced the peace of a good nap in a safe place with a blanket over her head for approximately 1,730 days. Every time I see her enjoying this peace, it makes me as happy as the first day she arrived and she “wore” her blanket.

To me Negra is an “Old Soul”. One who is wise beyond her years and has an understanding of the world. She has been mistreated beyond any of our ability to comprehend, yet is able to just enjoy curling up with a soft blanket and take a good nap. This is the true meaning of a “security blanket”.
I thought she looked like an “Old Soul” too! So very wise beyond her years. I think we could learn a lot from her.
How absolutely beautiful! I’m sure the memories of the awful years are fading a little each day.
She looks so content and happy. I love how the pictures graduate in each frame, giving into her peaceful nap. I love how she always covers her head with a blanket. It’s like Foxie and her troll doll. It’s a comfort and reassuring zone for them. Thanks for sharing, as you do each day.
She looks so wise and calm. She knows she is safe. I sure could use a hug from her.
Ok, Diana, this was a tear jerker for sure! I can’t even think right now because of these beautiful photos and post of the most beautiful girl in the world!
I agree that it’s the most wonderful thing in the world that these seven souls get to enjoy what they have after what they’ve been through.
Wonderful pics of Negra
quite touching actually, When I see such pics, I cant help but think how far she has come,
I think Negra KNOWS and FEELS just how SAFE and SECURE her life is,, Negra seizes every moment of every day,,
The picture of Negra with her eyes closed is my new wallpaper for my computer. It just replaces another picture of her. Thanks.
What a beautiful set of pics of a beautiful lady.
I think it was Diana who said that she made a promise to Negra to get her out of the lab and give her an unlimited supply of blankets. And no matter who said it, that’s exactly what they’ve done. And I think Negra is pretty happy about it.
That’s such a gorgeous last photo. What a beautiful face. I am always so amazed and touched by their expressions.
