Lazy Sunday

June 10, 2012 by Jackie

The chimps have been ridiculously playful lately (see Negra and Missy’s play session from last Wednesday, as well as Missy and Annie’s goofiness on Friday)! But some days, they just want to kick back and relax. It’s been sunny but really windy today (and the last several days!) which makes for a really warm and relaxing greenhouse.

Annie has been laying in a super comfy-looking nest all morning- the perfect place for a little yoga:

Foxie has been kicked back with a couple of troll dolls while grooming herself. There’s something so adorable about Foxie’s tongue!

And just now, I caught Jody grooming Burrito. I love the way she was holding his foot!

They are adorable! Jody looks like she is so tender with Mr. B. I just wonder what is going on in their minds. LOL Well, we know what is going on in Burritos mind…FOOD!

What a life! How beautiful it is is. You all are treating us to some wonderful insight into the lives of chimpanzees, and some pretty awesome close up looks at hands, feet (tongues), etc. 🙂

Jackie, wonderful photos. Annie is so sweet, love the way she has her hand dangling above her, the look on her face when looking at the camera. So glad Burrito is getting some grooming from Jody, too.

After looking at this again, I noticed Jody seems to have a sore spot on her left shoulder. What types of injuries do the chimps get and how do you treat them when they get a “boo-boo”?

The chimps occasionally get bites and scratches from fights, but thankfully we haven’t had any serious injuries thus far. We have treated injuries with antibiotics before just to be safe, but they keep their injuries pretty clean and free from infections through grooming both themselves and each other.

Does Mr. B get that kind of love and attention regularly? How wonderful to see the 7 enjoying such a wonderful sunny day.

I don’t see him getting that kind of attention from Jody too often, but Missy, Foxie, and Negra groom Burrito regularly.
